Damage model?

Damage model?
For quite awhile their has been a lack of damage model with the ships and stuff in x games.
Will there be a damage model in the new x game? I.e if you blow off a engine will it visually blow off or at least appear heavily damaged being black and sparking all over it and maybe venting plasma or whatever?
And if a ship crashes into another ship or asteroid can we get deformable mesh damage like we see alot in car games and a few space games?
Be nice if damage was like the homeworld games at least.
I know cap ships will have some effects which is nice but i really hope their on all ships/stations etc.
And breakable asteroids if you fire ur missiles at em. As i saw a trailer for a new space mmo and when it launches a stream line of missiles at a massive roid it breaks it up and has cool explosion and damage effects in. Would really like it if x games got that in too.

Breakable asteroids yeah i think x3 had a mining laser which does stuff to small roids but didnt really blow up proper full size ones i.e you launch 10 missiles in a stream left to right tightly and when it hits the roid it splits the big roil in half or halfway through and another barage would break it in half properly. Mind you i never really played much of x3 or tc mainly xbtf - x2 player.

Yeah i have seen that but its just surface elements not proper deformable mesh damage. And that just shows cap ships, what about small ships, stations, asteroids etc.
I suppose its quite nice tho the smoke is a bit poor quality.
Btw topic was mainly a question for the devs, not forum members tbh. True they might not be able to talk much about it but the question was posted so they could just answer whenever they could. As i know the forum folk wouldn't know much more than me.
One thing as well to ask to talk about would be explosion effects. Will it be quite poor as it was with all x games or will it visually be very nice this time around.
Something like these i would hope.

I am assuming it's a prototype of sorts, unless that ship is stiting still the smoke should be trailing behind it.
Well, at least it's going to look werid if it doesn't. I know technically in space it would actually travel with the ship, because there's no friction, but that'd look weird, so I hope they make the smoke trail a bit.
Blowing off a few chunks of metal would be cool also.

I thought Freelancer had a nice, if fairly simple damage system...basically your ship and wings/pylons etc. which could be visibly blown off. If these happened to house a weapon or system you'd loose that too.
So, after a particularly bad day your ship would have chunks missing and have destroyed systems.
I would guess that as any surface-mount modular item can be destroyed (Bernd said this) then there must be some method of showing this damage.
The pictures showing burning bits on the hull do look just like Homeword...
Of course full damage modelling like we see in some racing titles would be PERFECT, but that's asking a little much I imagine.
I would hope that visible scars on the surface of the ship would be doable...Personally I'd like to see shadows of these scars to remain after the ship is repaired so you can see a ship look battle-worn but still 100% functional after some time...Of course a trip to the spray shop would see things looking pristine once again...
Scoob.

There aren't small ships anymore, everything is a drone or some scale of capital ship. Stations also have surface elements.Skeeter wrote:Yeah i have seen that but its just surface elements not proper deformable mesh damage. I don't think they have given us any reason to expect deformable ship models, though if enough of the sub-systems are surface elements it might still look ok.
