Steam Pre-load has just started.

Ok, serious question for those who have downloaded the game, where do the files save to in the Steam folder? My sister is downloading the game for me and I am planning on picking up the files on Wednesday, but they don't appear to have downloaded into the Steam>SteamApps>Common folder. Any help from the wise and glorious members of this forum will be greatly appreciated! There could even be cake!

I believe \Steam\depotcache is where the XR files are kept.
And I have a question of my own. My game finished preloading hours ago, but every now and then the bottom of my steam window says (0 out of 1 downloads completed) and XR will say "download queued" for just a moment, then it goes back to saying Preload Complete. Is there a reason for this?

Awesome, all the files in depotcache? because i note they are all individual files not in a folder! Anyway, thanks very much for the quick replySynopis wrote:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\depotcachesmithy87 wrote:Ok, serious question for those who have downloaded the game, where do the files save to in the Steam folder? Even in a game like Europa Universalis IV the achievements are the usual pointless drivel (as the entire achievements system itself always is) such as "Conquer a province".
I must say this seems interesting.
I'll Take That
Reacquire your ships and crews.
Indicates that we'll either "lose" our stuff at some point in the story? Perhaps like a traditional "go to jail" event? Or maybe it's just something early like "oh no you start in a jail, do the tutorial and break out to find your ship again" ?
Those achievements look completely linear and bland. In such a supposedly open ended sandbox game I would have expected more varied and choice driven achievements. Fact is though I truly hope they aren't reflective of the true game, because in all honesty I want to love it.
Umm.. achievements are always linear, because they are singular goals.Dank7430 wrote:Those achievements look completely linear and bland. The achievements in Rebirth look very similar to the ones from TC/AP. In fact, I think a few of them are the same, like "Capture X number of ships." Rebirth's achievements actually highlight was has been expanded upon since release: there is an achievement for destroying a capital ship's engines and another one for destroying a capital ship's jump drive.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

Funny, I always think Sandbox and Choice are paradox of each others. After all, I believe just about every sandbox games that I play the choice is only at how you start, you will always end up the same. In the elderscroll series your choice to play as a warrior or a mage or a thief is only for the first part of the game, eventually all of your character will turn out the same. In X you can choose to play a certain way, but there is nothing prevent you from playing all the possible avenue.Dank7430 wrote: In such a supposedly open ended sandbox game I would have expected more varied and choice driven achievements.
After all, choices is possible via limitation of opening a path at the cost of shutting down another path, sandbox, by essence is a direct contradiction of that.
Also achievement are just meta, they're supposed to be just milestone in the game. They're not story telling device ... at least I never look at them as such.

each preload is made up of 3 files, a *.csd, %,csm and *.manifest file. for the collectors edition on steam the files you are interest in are those starting 2871_, 2872_ and 2873_ each of which should have the three extensions above. copy those files and put them in your depotcache in your steam folder and you should be good to go when the game unencrypts.smithy87 wrote:Awesome, all the files in depotcache? because i note they are all individual files not in a folder! If anyone needs a proof of what he said, here it is (I love bragging about it so much !):Saquavin wrote:In big cities in France, you can have optical fiber for 30-35 EUR months which delivers, depending on your provider 100mb/s, 200mb/s, 300mb/s or even 1gb/s. When i moved to the area it was 20mb/s (which was part of the reason i moved where i did) about 18 months later they upped it to 50mb/s and about 2 years later it was upped again to 100mb/s at the same price as the 50mb/s then they boosted me to 120mb/s. The issue is that most websites etc cannot pump info out at the speed i can take it, but in real world figures, I get on average between 14 and 15MB/s download from steam.
Unfortunately I'm still ADSL-based, with luck and weird we know :
I was at 4mb/s in Big City in France (far from central) and now in my tiny tiny village, i'm at... 5mb/s ! (a bit less far from central)
Still growing !

Still correct to download about everything, even big games. Ping is good too, I can play without lags. But I'll be happy with more...

You've got almost double what I have (2.67 download here)--I've just got into the habit of leaving large games downloading overnight. (Started XR preload at 2:30am this morning and it finished a couple of hours ago).Saquavin wrote:Thanks Xwolfi

Also pre-loaded my Rebirth.

Just checked my internet-connection:
download speed: 94.91Mbps
upload speed: 5.67Mbps
latency: 5ms

I feel the same and I'm sure many others do too. I suppose its the long years of waiting and the early days of skepticism with the long veil of silence that have lead us to this uncontrollable excitement.danpaul88 wrote: I still can't believe how ridiculously excited I am for a video game to be released and now it's so close I can touch it (albeit in it's current encrypted, slightly incomplete, form)...
It's all seeming real now, there it is! A desktop icon... "X Rebirth"
I have removed all icons from my desktop except this and the recycle bin, when the bell tolls, I'll have a clear shot at clicking it without accidentally opening other applications in my mad stabbing panic.
The wait is almost over!
And to think my wife wants to go out for our wedding anniversary on the 16th....Well, I know she wants to, and I know I'm not going to

Well mine is a touch faster than yours on download, but makes no difference to me as I am waiting for a hard copy arriving.
