All downloaded in 7 minutes on BT: Infinity :D Got to love modern broadband connections.

I still can't believe how ridiculously excited I am for a video game to be released and now it's so close I can touch it (albeit in it's current encrypted, slightly incomplete, form)...

I feel the same and I'm sure many others do too. I suppose its the long years of waiting and the early days of skepticism with the long veil of silence that have lead us to this uncontrollable excitement.

It's all seeming real now, there it is! A desktop icon... "X Rebirth"
I have removed all icons from my desktop except this and the recycle bin, when the bell tolls, I'll have a clear shot at clicking it without accidentally opening other applications in my mad stabbing panic.

The wait is almost over!

And to think my wife wants to go out for our wedding anniversary on the 16th....Well, I know she wants to, and I know I'm not going to

Well mine is a touch faster than yours on download, but makes no difference to me as I am waiting for a hard copy arriving.

My result, same site.

Hmm, no idea why I have then...It's quite possible I'm hallucinating, probable even, but each time I look, it's there. I don't trust myself anymore though, my elevated fervor has completely taken over.

Depending on settings Steam can add an icon automatically, or you can just go to the game list, right click on the game and ask to create one.

Does pre-load mean we can play at midnight on the night of the 14th?

size requirements are just estimates. They consider things like savegames, future patches and updates and add random value you are sure NEVER exceeds. It's not a number you swear your life on.

I just ordered a Western Digital WD Black WD5003AZEX Hard Drive.

I hope it gets here before Wednesday so I can replace my current drive, my Seagate .12 drive tops at 125MB/s, this WD tops at 180MB/s sustained read speed.

what's the point of getting something small as this and not getting SSD instead?

Why on earth didn't you take the opportunity to get an SSD? You could be achieving double those speeds with SSD.

with the frequency that I reformat my HDD a year, paired with how long I go without upgrading storage devices, an SSD would be so degraded by the second or close to 3rd year that my current drive would out class it in read speed.

Many tests have been done to put this myth to bed. With current SSD technology I doubt after 3 years your drive would be anywhere near degraded.

Although maybe if you really do format your drive a lot - this probably does have an impact.

only 4.4gbs. with the amount of content in this game, this must mean the files are really well compressed?

but then again space games tend to be smaller. i never understood why.

from my previous experience with steam preloading, no. it'll unlock usually pacific standard time at 8 pm or something.

The game will unlock when your Steam client says it will.

Yup, no problem when you can anticipate. The only issue is when I want to play a game I've not played for a while. Ok let's play this ! "Game files have changed, steam will download a part of it." 5GB. Damn it ! Not today... ;)

BTW, thanks for X Rebirth preload, it really helps.

Yea - Downloading X-Rebirth!

While there is still a week to go, is there anyway to view the manual / collectors additions while I wait?

Thanks
