Some engines are made better than others. But you'd think an inhouse engine made for 1 game over the course of 7 years wouldn't struggle with pc's well over the minimum spec :/
And yet we have X3 Ap. The game made for a single core cpu. In 2012.
My point is Egosoft can't code for shit. And they haven't done any optimisations to the said code over 13 years.
What's your point?
Egosoft's next big thing....

You left out the part where ships/stations require materials to be built. Materials that have their own production chains. In previous X games ships magically spawn from nothing and stations came for magic beans already staffed and ready for work in seconds.
Egosoft is going for the Circle-of-life style of economy. once the crippling bugs are dealt with, and the universe gets a few more systems, it'll be interesting to see it at work.

So you're saying if they can't make an old engine work... they shouldn't try making a new one work.Noimageavaiable wrote:My point is quite clear I think. Yeah makes sense. I agree. Except you see they claimed that they couldn't optimise X3 for multicore (mad bottleneck) cpu's. And couldn't add new shader models (which also kinda bottleneck the game seeing how DX9 is now lightyears behind in efficiency not least due to gpu drivers not being optimised for something so ancient anymore).
So they then release an engine with the same exact problems they had before. That was my point. The X:R engine is barely better technologically than the X3 engine. AND (I agree with you, you see?) worse optimised.
Now what you're saying is they should try and patch in features and optimise the shit out of something that's 7.5 (DX10 was released in 2006) years out of date on the day of release?

You don't?
I do!
Here are some ideas:
1) Everything in X3 plus all the best mods
2) Ability to walk around INSIDE our ships AND stations in first person
3) Ability to have crew member NPC's that move around the ship/station and are assigned duties
4) Ability to respond to hostile boarding actions on ships OR stations in first person combat with your NPC's
5) Ability to go down to planets and move around and do things in first person (think Battlecruiser 3000AD type capability)
6) Ability to easily add mods, add new and more ships to the game etc..
I can think of a few more but you get the idea...
Take it light.....

Oh, you mean the wrong way of going about it? Sorry but you completely eliminated the credibility of your post by mentioning that company!Malakie wrote:Ability to go down to planets and move around and do things in first person (think Battlecruiser 3000AD type)
Any company deciding to chose that shower as inspiration are heading downhill fast. Horrible company, horrible developer and even more horrible community.

I wonder how EA Games is doing these daysmonkeyshots wrote:Their next big thing is probably the x:rebirth playstation 4 launch. After that, my guess is, they either get bought or they close down.
Although they might not be interested since they usually buy out franchises that are popular, then ruin them. Egosoft is kinda ahead of the curve here.

The company mentioned has nothing to do with my post... I simply used the game made by that title as an EXAMPLE of space to ground transition, i.e. go from commanding a ship all the way to first person ground troop on a planet...
I was not talking about how they did it or whether it was good or bad... Just the idea which is cool.
Egosoft doing something like that would not even be close to the crap that game has in it.. But the idea of what was done would be awesome in an X3 setting...

Point taken. But if you knew the games then you would realise that they space to ground transition is not seamless, despite what their developer would tell you.
Knowing Egosoft and their latest game, in regard to the current docking mechanic, I fear this is exactly what they would do too.

Egosoft's implementation of station landings beg to differ.Malakie wrote:Egosoft doing something like that would not even be close to the crap that game has in it..
Heck, this whole game begs to differ. The BC games were some of the most ambitious games ever. But they weren't competent enough to pull it off, so they ended up incomplete, buggy messes. Just like this one, though this one only has half the ambition of BC.
Interesting, I agree with you completely but pretty clear they are only listening to a select few - mainly those that wanted things like auto pilot/SETA removed and wanted a dumbed down version of everything else.wasdie wrote:The engine needs constant work and they need continuous feedback from the community.
They have a very eclectic community of gamers that play the X universe as they admitted, without a way to hear everyone clearly it will just be a mess. Community relations isn't rocket science but leaving it to mob rule as they are doing to get feedback is just silly.

How's this any different? Well, except that none of it works and the fact that all the new implementations are horrible. But the basic idea is just the same. So...?giskard wrote:Well said... Buy Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen, rename the shortcut to X4, and forget this ever happened.

You can't just "fix" something like a massive software project,N4N wrote:Its not just the skin, they could just take X3, fix what was worng and leave what was good. In my opinion, if they take X3 AP and change:
-Use rebirth graphics engine, very pretty.
-Use rebirth Stations(exterior of course), but one sector can hold 2 or 3 of those big stations.
-Remove some of the gates in near systems, such as in the solar system, when yo just travel from planet to planet add something like highways, I like the concept, but remove nonsense minigame.
-Fix the big fleet management, in X3 is a pain to control big fleets and they stuck at gates and etc....
-Fix IA and collision system.
-Add some real challenge/target for late game. Like adding sector conquer, or something like it. Its like CK2, you can conquer the whole contienent, but it will be a hell of a way to do so.
-Fix a bit trading system, was ok, but need some tweaks here and there, but leave the core like it was.
-Make Cap ships modular such as they are in rebirth, with different parts and so. Also fix that cap ships attach to the same spot each other, thats ridiculous.
-Balance the missions , for example you can make millions on killing misisions, but for same rank think missions you only do 30K.......
And many small tweaks... just here and there, and they had the perfect game.....
Had they started a redesign you'd end up with pretty much the same thing, a game with many bugs, with new fundamentals and features that didn't make the release date.
Excellent example of something that needs to be kept and nurtured, I can think of quite a few things that are great in this game, just a shame these nuggets are let down by all the rest of the game that make it impossible to interact on any meaningful level with it.Kor'ah wrote:You left out the part where ships/stations require materials to be built. p.s. Reply to above post - no, these new glorious "space cities" need to go! When common sense takes a back seat you know nothing good is going to come of it.

That's what I thought. I bet quite a few others did too, but are too angry right now to admit it.Malakie wrote:You don't?Hob Anagerik wrote:I guess the problem is that I don't really know what I want X4 to be. But I do now know what I don't want it to be!

What do people mean when they say they don’t want X4 to be another X3? Take any successful series, crysis, far cry, dragon age (3), tomb raider et al, they’re the same old story updated with new places, new characters, new quests, more dynamic environments, better graphics with stunning new vistas and effects, the devs make a new game in the series based on all that was good from the previous games right, or try to.
I recognise very little of this in X-R. It feels like some new company on the block has tried its luck at making a space sim and screwed up badly.
If we don’t won’t X4 then maybe people are right, we should all go pledge star citizen for a whole new experience and DX11.

From what comments I have read here about Star Citizen and their community I suspect it could be a horrible affair. Can they be as bad as the LoL crowd for instance?
