You assign ships to Defence Officers of bigger ships, much like you do for managers, thus creating a fleet. Like I said, detailed info on this only after I had chance to give it a good run over, maybe some one else has more insight to it.

You assign ships to "Commanders" which can be Managers, Captains, Defence Officers, Architects (typically on stations or larger vessels i.e. S --> M --> L --> XL)

Some vessels can also be assigned to each other providing they are of the same class (e.g. two Rahanas Containers) can be assigned to each other but it does not apply for all vessels (some notable exceptions are Balor, Arawns, and Taranis vessels).

The rules for forming Heirarchies could have done with being explained in the manual really.

Crash reports

Post by ogilvieharrisjf@gmail.com » Fri, 16. May 14, 14:36

Do we need to upload our crash reports for the beta testing or is it automatic?

Ketraar wrote:Well this is because you still think in terms of X3, have you tried to create a "battle group"? You know have a major Destroyer then assign smaller escorts to it etc. This should allow for quick orders to multiple ships. Now I also had no time yet to asses this properly, but in theory it should work OK. Sure worth a try though.

I did try this when I played in earlier patches, and I found ships under defence officer just sitting, doing nothing, but I will give it a try with this patch and report back.

edit: wondering what will work best, defence officer or captain to control the ships.

Any dump files for the beta/RC should be zipped and uploaded to a third party site, then linked in your report in the following forum.

It doesn´t work, I assigned two "S" class figthers to a "M" class figther, all on patrol status, then issued the attack enemies in zone to the "M" figther and it carried on with the oreder by itself, the two escorts didn´t follow, just continued flying around.

I have some limited experience with battlegroups, and it does kind of work. I'm reasonably sure that you have to assign the ship(s) in question to a defense officer of the lead ship, however (no small ships in my game that I own, hence couldn't try breaking it that way), after that they will be taking their orders from there. It was a rather significant annoyance though that I was unable to assign Taranis-class destroyers to an Arawn or each other, however :-|

On the topic of this patch, I'm looking forward to try out the new sandbox starts and the ship commands.

No, since patch 1.30 or 1.31, you can´t assign any ship to a Deffence Off. onboard a CapShip, it automatically gets assigned to the captain. There is not an available choice to do otherwise like before or like with a station, the captain of the CapShip assumes control of the smaller ship. And it makes sense since NPC´s escort ships where always (since early release) assigned to the captain of the ship that is being escorted.

Just read the patch notes - oh Lawd Jesus, this looks promising. :D I'm guessing the combat rebalances are gonna be similar to the ones seen in the Official Mod?

I'll wait for it to not be in Beta, but I think a reinstall may be in my future.

EDIT

Though I noticed you still can't buy S-class ships, only keep the ones you capture. oh well.

We've updated the Patch Public Beta to RC8, with more fixes and a reduced memory footprint which should help with the stability issues that some of you were experiencing with RC7.

Putting out patches at 10-11pm on a friday is dedication. Someone phone those people pizza and beer. And maybe gifts for their loved ones to ease the pain when they unchain themselves from the keyboards :)
