Past history says otherwise. Expansion packs, yeah. But we've never had to pay for DLC before. Of course, this is a new game, so the DLC paradigm may change, too. Hope not, though.ragod wrote:...
If you think Egosoft is going to limit themselves to just patches and NOT throw DLC out to try to milk this for all its worth... you are in for a rude awakening I think.

With the previous games DLC was A, not really that big on the market, and B, the game was not set up to support it, with all of the different ways you could play it.Nanook wrote:Past history says otherwise. Now they have tied everything to Steam, regardless of how or where you purchase the game.
And if you want to talk past history one of their expansions was a large part of fan made mods packaged together and sold, so do you REALLY think DLC is that much of a stretch?

If they were that keen on DLC I doubt they'd be giving away free cockpits & a load of new ships. 2.0 would have still been a great patch even without that stuff, it's truly exceptional with it. Can think of countless devs that would have kept that stuff aside for later sale as DLC, maybe £5 each for the cockpits & £10 for all those new ships, probably do an entirely cosmetic 'ship armour pack' too...
Of course they would, the game was one of THE WORST games released last year.GCU Grey Area wrote:If they were that keen on DLC I doubt they'd be giving away free cockpits & a load of new ships. 2.0 would have still been a great patch even without that stuff, it's truly exceptional with it. Chances are if the game had received positive press they would have saved those things for DLC, but it doesn't take more than two braincells to rub together to figure out what the reaction of the gaming community would be if such a subpar game started pressing out DLC so quickly.
"Well ****, they can't be bothered to release a complete game but by god they can shove DLC out the door."
That would have been swell for them wouldn't it? Instead they released a few minor changes (lets not kid ourselves, they are insanely minor additions and fixes) and gave them out "free" as "Rebirths 2.0!" as well as slapping a massive sale on the product to try to bring new people in instead, now that the first wave consumers beta tested it for them for 60 dollars.

Ayn Rand was correct.
Countless devs? Really?GCU Grey Area wrote:If they were that keen on DLC I doubt they'd be giving away free cockpits & a load of new ships. 2.0 would have still been a great patch even without that stuff, it's truly exceptional with it. The devs that milk DLC are mostly comprised of those that are directly working for publishers and as such have little to no choice in releasing additional content for a price.
Just to name a few games that have had DLC-worthy content released for free:
The Witcher and The Witcher 2
Torchlight 2
Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead (pretty much anything Valve)
Terraria
Magicka
Endless Space
Sword of the Stars 2
Steel Storm: Burning Retribution
Space Pirates and Zombies
So yeah. We can stop Ohhhing and Ahhhing as if this sort of thing is unprecedented. It isn't. Those were just games from my personal library and not games I did a general search for.
If you want a different perspective, stand on your head.
Some people can't afford to pay 50-60 euros for a game. For some people 50 euros is a week's paycheck..Jakesnake5 wrote:Typical problem with the belief that people should wait to buy new games till they are discounted, is that there would NOT be any new games make to reach the discount price.
My price limit for a single game is for example 8 euros. I don't care how good the game is, I can't afford it until the price won't drop below that.
No offense but if your weekly pay check is 50 euros I doubt you'll be able to afford a gaming pc to run most games ......blotunga wrote:Some people can't afford to pay 50-60 euros for a game. I agree. If things are that tight, you should probably not be spending on games or a gaming PC in the first place.SupraRZ wrote:No offense but if your weekly pay check is 50 euros I doubt you'll be able to afford a gaming pc to run most games ......
The final choice is up to the individual of course, but I can't see being in that bad of a situation and splurging on games, sale or no sale.

So you feel games should only be available to the rich? In my worldly travels I've meet people who live on less and still manage to play games. Of course they don't need to worry about Copyright laws as they don't exist in their countries so they have the option to get cheap games.Slashman wrote:I agree. The American Movie Association (years ago) reduced the price of new release DVD's in China to about US$1 (or slightly above cost price) each to combat the rampart Copyright infringements going on there.
One of my regular clan members lives in Indonesia and makes US$12/day, he still manages to game.
This is why Steam does so well, it's bulk discount games for the poor and impoverish.

My first gaming PC was a gift, and whenever I upgrade I use my old parts to build my close friends gaming PCs of their own. (I stay on the bleeding edge so my used parts can easily run high end games)SupraRZ wrote:No offense but if your weekly pay check is 50 euros I doubt you'll be able to afford a gaming pc to run most games ......blotunga wrote:Some people can't afford to pay 50-60 euros for a game. So even though someone has an amazing gaming PC, doesnt mean they can either afford the PC or the games themselves.
Seriously, everyone can manage his money on his own and is totally allowed to do that.
If someone says he rather pays his phone-bill with his money than buying a game, then he is totally able to.
As long as nobody says "I had to pirate it because I can't afford it" which is no excuse for doing crime at all but just egoistic. So we should be totally fine with people rather going the right way and making use of such discount opportunities but have to wait a little bit longer if there money.situation is not as good.
