Hi,

I'm in the final stage of this game, only trying to get the rest of the steam achievements. My reputation with Terracorp is staying on 28, in spite of a number of missions I did and successful 2-stage-smalltalks. Also my MORT ships are constantly trading with TER stations.

Any hints what might give me the final points quicker?

Hi,

Really? I'll try. Thanks.

While we're at it: I really hate the fact that my own stations don't react differently to me than others. "Welcome home, boss" would be the least I'd expect. Or that my manager sits in his/her office and not on the bed in one of the crew quarters.

Hi,

it worked. With a triple Weapons-Tech factory mission I got from 28 to 29. And now I'm collecting Technoplex missions for West Gate ...

It's a little puzzling that I get no notification for the fulfillment of those missions. Not popup and no voice. Next time I need to look if I even get the money. 50 millions are peanuts :-)

Indeed! At least in previous Xs you typically get "Welcome back aboard", if I'm not mistaken...

Also note: ANY construction job qualifies as mission completion, by which I mean any module added counts, as does adding weapons (even a single turret/FFP!), or any repair job (even for 1%) - so if you find missions for a station you already have and in the same sector, you can use it.

Actually, you do get a notification in the event monitor, but it's quite... low-key, let's say - definitely easy to miss. In earlier playthroughs, I would often get venture capital by stacking, say, around a dozen missions for each of Solar Energy Array and Water Distillery (both Canteran stations), and then as soon as I finished either, I'd get a stream of these notifications tying up the event monitor for quite some time... However, there is indeed no vocal announcement, and not so much as a *bleep* (except perhaps that very soft, subtle sound that accompanies a new message in the event monitor.) You can check your log, however, if you want to add up the mission rewards, for instance.
As for your last sentence: well, in EVE Online I actually call a million ISK (the in-game currency - InterStellar Kredits) "a peanut" :D Because in games such as these, millions really are peanuts as of not long past the initial stages...

Much as in previous games, the station building missions are the most "politically lucrative" - I just wish I could build a station and not own it afterward; I wish there were either two types of missions (X3TC/AP-style and XR-style), or the option to sell off the station once it's been built (even if it's a once-off opportunity.)

Hi,

yeah, I should stop improving stations once they are working, but all those infrastructure-missions are annoying me, so I always complete a station ASAP. But I could reduce the number of weapons while building - or at least do that in the next game. For now, I just need a handful of achievements.

Hehehe - yes, I have the same type of OCD, where those upkeep missions are concerned... When playing a plot game, I'm always quite annoyed by all the station specialist ones that I can't fulfill until I've been to OmLy and back...

... which is for me the most important reason to use the experimental jumpdrive.

Hi,

thanks again. Based on your hints I took another Technoplex mission for West Gate and five minutes later my reputation was on 30.

Now I'm about to improve the economy in deVries. Since their CVs only support three kinds of stations, the building missions are heaping up. 8 missions to build a water purifier brought my RC reputation from 20 to 25, and in the meantime I have another heap of ~15 to build a solar energy plant.

Providing their shipyard with the necessary material is another challenging but rewarding job. In the meantime I can work on the 777 ships to destroy for my second to last achievement.

Is there any chance to push the station building in deVries that takes place by HvA CVs? The don't offer any trade missions. Maybe I should build another weapons tech factory...

Indeed - I used to use this in some campaign games to boost up my finances once in De Vries, by taking a bunch of Distillery and Solar Farm missions, building one of each, and scoring about 50 million each time, then sometimes I would keep taking those missions and completing them by extending or repairing the ones I had built (I didn't bother with Wheat Farms, as there's an abundance of that, so I didn't need to have them later down the line.) (I stopped doing this a couple of playthroughs ago, though, as it made the game too easy for my liking - on one occasion I made around 200 million with those two stations, with well under 20 million invested in the construction - felt cheesy :D )
RainerPrem wrote:Providing their shipyard with the necessary material is another challenging but rewarding job.
I found it quite lucrative, in a modest way - and doubly rewarding by making that shipyard operational, giving me access to Canteran ships (which I quite like.)
RainerPrem wrote:Is there any chance to push the station building in deVries that takes place by HvA CVs? The don't offer any trade missions. Maybe I should build another weapons tech factory...
There are several of those stations, I take it you're referring to these. They're the Wheat Plantation in Forty-Two, the Water Still in Fiendish Moloch, the Shipyard in Extinct Torch, and the HoA food factory in Vapor Stream (or whatever that zone is called.) I actually help these along as soon as they become available - the trade offers are at their CVs, not at the stations themselves, of course. However, when those CVs get destroyed, they are replaced but the replacements no longer make those offers, so if you let any of those CVs die (once the initial construction phase is done, at least), then you are stuck with that station at the level it's at. The Food factory can go up to a second phase (in my most recent plot game I failed to protect the CV and was stuck with it with only one phase), the Wheat Farm gets 1 or 2 additional phases (I forget), the Shipyard gets one extension, and I forget about the Water Still - I think it gets one extension, but I'm not sure. In the early game, I tend to make some decent (in the once-off short term) money supplying these construction jobs, as by then I have local (DeVries) RMP production up and running, and these make a doubly satisfying set of customers: profit + development.

PS: Sorry about the slow reply - a major telephone cable serving my area was stolen on Saturday night, it took the phone company almost until now to replace it! :S

Hi,

reviving this thread for some more questions/comments in my second game.

1) regarding the new stations in deVries: This time there is not the slightest progress; all the CVs are hanging around, doing nothing.

2) regarding the space fly egg collection: Destroyed another 20 or so Niv-asteroids, but have yet to see my first authentic egg. In the current game the authentic space-flies seem to have vanished as well, along with the SETA parts. OTOH I have crafted six rare engines in the meantime.

3) Okay, there is a rumor about a "Xenon-Invasion" mission line, which I haven't found yet. Does anybody know about the requirements to start it, or point me to a relevant article/thread?

Thanks in advance
Rainer

Yikes, between this lot and the snagging while walking, and even outright getting stuck altogether, it seems that this update has... caused some damage, let's just say. Good thing I haven't gotten around to playing more than about a half-hour since 4.30's release...

1) Just to be sure (you probably have checked this already, but just being thorough) - did you fly up to those CVs with a Trade Computer installed, in order to see the trade offers? If yes, and they have no trade offers, it sounds like they now act similarly to how they did recently but after the first phase was built: "back then" (a couple of months ago?) if one of those CVs was destroyed, it was replaced at the exact same location (I didn't witness this as it happened, but given the placement of the new CV's centre directly over the centre of its predecessor's wreck, I suspect replacement by means of spawning.) However, if it had already completed any stages of its station, the replacement wouldn't pick up where the ousted one had left off, and development of that station would be permanently stopped. It sounds as though now this may be happening from the get-go...

2) Either a newly introduced bug, or merely the RNG being R. I've had cases where I had sold ~50 of a particular SETA part before finding the last one, and other times (much more rare) when the distribution was fairly even and I got to assemble the thing in the first few hours, even though I hadn't left my starting system. (Keep in mind, randomness is not evenly distributed as the "law of averages" can be misinterpreted to suggest, but rather is subject to truly anomalous-seeming clusters.) The same has been true for me (though not to such an extreme degree, nor even to a degree such as you describe) regarding the authentic eggs - so it MAY be simply long odds being realised... but for all I know it could be a new issue.

3)
Spoiler
Show
My recollections on this are pretty hazy, but:
- I've played games where I completed a number of the "ship in distress" sorts of missions that pop up spontaneously while flying around in Toride. After enough of those, the invasion bit crops up.
- I've also encountered a mission on the bulletin board (also in Toride, unless I'm mistaken - if not, I suppose probably in one of the HoL systems) which has to do with a Xenon invasion or such - I'm not, however, sure whether the two are different things, or whether they are alternative paths to the same quest.

I started a new vanilla 4.30 freeplay game shortly before Christmas and I have the SETA (with lots of crafting spares too). I also have a couple of authentic spaceflies. I'm doing pretty well for rare jumpdrive parts and coolant too.

Beware the all-powerful RNG! :D

Hi,

you don't need any authentic spaceflies. You need authentic spacefly eggs.

Coolant is easy when you know about the special lockboxes. Otherwise ... I just got two of them from drops.

Hi,

started a new game (HoL, difficult level). It runs rather smoothly. Bought some M freighters first an took each and every station building mission I could get. Now I'm about to write a program to display all those missions ordered by sector and type of station.

In the meantime I'm building one station, having assigned all the small freighters to the station and have a small fleet of Rahanases and a Titurel(courtesy Atlas pirates) for trading.

I spent a whole of six game hours opening lockboxes in Nirin Treaty and got a total of 70+ Millions from it. Boring, but profitable.

At the moment it looks as if the warehouses in HoL and Cold Star offer more unique missions than other stations - or they can be found more easily.

Still no single authentic spacefly egg. :-(

Hi,

three game days in I want to finish the "Diplomacy" Mission series in Cold Star. The first mission of the second part is an escort mission from Philae to longest reign.

The first attempt failed disastrously. Immediately after the start no less than ten fighters showed up, and while I killed five of them the other five killed the freighter.

When I tried it for the second time I had my newly boarded Olmekron close by, but it wasn't needed, since the freighter kept close to the station until all fighters were killed by the station. But when we reached Longest reign, another ten fighters showed up, there wasn't a station close by, and my mighty Olmekron was still lingering in Philae.

So is there a trick apart from putting another destroyer close to the spawn point of those second bunch of fighters? Will that even work?

Swarm missiles I've used in missions where there are A lot of enemy fighters. If you play unmodded Astro's will work pretty well. Depending on how many enemies there are I've used up my whole supply before

Hi,

But they only have a range of 5km or so. That means I need to fly dab into the middle of that swarm of fighters, hitting r as fast as possible?

pretty much, I've done it before, once you run out of missiles as I have before during those situations I just finish up the survivors with the other ship weapons.
