System requirements

Post by Falcrack » Mon, 1. Oct 18, 17:02

I have an i7-7700K, 16 GB of RAM, and a GTX 960. I know the minimum requirements listed indicate a GTX 780 as the minimum, but my GTX 960 has served me quite well in everything else I own. I want to know, will I need to upgrade the graphics card, or will what I have suffice, despite the listed minimum specs? Was the minimum graphics card simply a function of it being the lowest spec card Egosoft has tested? Was there any sort of systematic effort to try to determine the minimum? I don't need to have 60 fps with ultra high settings, just as long as there is a graphics setting where I will be able to enjoy decent (30+ fps) in most situations.

I'm on the same situation, i think the minimum specs for graphics card are a too high

Remember that minimum requirements can also be influenced by factors other than performance. In this case, the availability of suitable Vulkan drivers may play a part.

From just checking nvidias pages, vulkan is fully supported from 6xx series and up so other than performance and vulkan support im not sure why the 7xx series of cards is marked as a minimum either.

Also im curious if 2gb cards will be fine at max detail at 1080p or do you need a 4gb card or higher otherwise ull run out of gpu memory.

In yall's opinion, how will an R9 380X stack up? It does pretty well at Rebirth with everything turned up, only framerate shenanigans are when I'm in a particularly cloudy rock field.

Of course, that's not VR edition, so, no Vulkan involved.

Really hope it'll run well. Curious if I can run at 4k max on my 7700k, 32GB ram and 1080TI. (With scaled UI or binoculars)
Save game editor XR and CAT/DAT Extractor
Keep in mind that it's still a work in progress although it's taking shape nicely.

If anyone is interested in a new save game editor for X4 and would like to contribute to the creation of one let me know. I do not have sufficient time to create it alone, but if there are enough people who want it and want to contribute we might be able to set something up.

Well, I have a 750Ti, so I'm hoping that'll run it. If not I can always wait.

hope I'm wrong, but based on past experiences and the hiccups I see in the trailers, we are in for a lot of pain in November performance wise, degradation over time, hiccups on normal gameplay.

praying really hard to FSM that I'm wrong. Really.

Same here. I'm thinking whether to preorder it or not.

Edit:
Spec:
i5-4690k
8GB RAM
750ti (2GB)
1080p

Hopefully I can play the game at low to medium settings.

The biggest hard stop is going to be how much video memory the game needs at minimum settings. The 780 listed in the minimum has 3GB if that is what the game really needs having anything less than that will instantly hose any performance no matter how fast your card is. So if Egosoft can say if that is the basis for the minimum requirement or not it would go a long way.

I already posted this in Offtopic but if anyone has an AMD system like I do, these are the specs for AMD Systems according to userbenchmark.com. It is sad that AMD Ryzen is ignored by Egosoft completly :(

Minimum AMD specs for X4 Foundations are:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2500X
- GPU: RX 570-4G or 480-4G

Recommended (currently):
- CPU: Ryzen 7 2600* or better 2700X**
- GPU: RX Vega 56

* Higher overall but single core performance then i7-6700K
**Higher overall and single core performance then i7-6700K

Youch. I have a 1600X, so, maybe that'll work? But GPU wise it looks like I'm probably behind the curve. >.>

I plainly compared the hardware on userbenchmark.com after some helpful community members made me aware of that
Sorry I didn't check for the older Ryzen Gen but yours sounds good

Don't know how this works out in real performance, of course.

Hm... well, that's encouraging. On paper at least. Thanks for the research ^^

And it's not like the 380X is a potato, either, but if X4 is going to be spinning it up to Ludicrous Speed, I might need to at least work on its heat dissipation. It's starting to get to the lower limits of "maybe I should do something about this" under load >.>

I also wonder whether X4 Foundations will be playable for me, especially in regard to the graphics card:
AMD Ryzen 1600x, nVidia GTX 960 4GB, 16GB RAM

While my graphics card supports Vulkan, Steam minimum system requirements quote 970 as a minimum..
Would be nice that we have situation with 960GTX clarified, so I can know whether I should preorder the game, or not.

Thanks a million!

Hm, i have a i5-8600K and a gtx 1060 (6GB).
i really hoped, that would be enough as i fully upgraded my PC this year.
i think it should be playable, but i hope there won't be any framepeaks.

Two questions.

1) What is "AMD equivalent" to 6700? Ryzen 5 1600?
2) Why is 6700 K specifically listed? Is it expected that overclocking is neccessary?

Cannot imagine it won't run under the minimum requirements. If GTX 780/970 would really be the minimum many people would not be able to play it. Making their market quite small.

1) I would say a Ryzen 2600 is an equivalent.
2) I guess someone took a look at some price list and listed the first i7 he saw. I really doubt you need to overclock a CPU to play the game :)

I am a bit worried by those requirements as my PC (in the signature) is barely enough. The problem is I wanted to upgrade last summer, but it was the time when the mining travesty started and prices of graphics cards skyrocketed.
And when I wanted to uprgrade now, all Intel CPUs disappeared from price lists as Intel is not able to manufacture enough CPUs...

My chances of playing X4?

Post by oldspacegamer » Tue, 2. Oct 18, 13:06

Hello, I am a huge X-series fan.
(sadly I've had to create a new account here, my old account 'SteveX2' I cannot access anymore as I forgot the password and the email linked to it belongs to my old ISP, so I can no longer access it)

I'm just wondering what are the chances of me being able to play X4? I've loved the X-series and played every one since XBTF.

My specs:-

Win 7 64bit Home Premium
16gb ram
AMD Athlon FX6300 (six core @ 3.6ghz)
Asus GTX 770

looking at the steam specs, it seems I have little to no chance at all but I thought I'd ask you guys before giving up on playing the game.
