Like a drinking game where you can bet on how much local drugs you can take and still execute a perfect docking procedure?
ES could even implement a shader for this which makes any paranid look attractive. And docking somewhat more complicated.
Or an environmental awareness minigame where you have to collect more garbage then your opponent crawling through an endless vent labyrinth..

I don't think it's that mini-games are bad to those complaining, I think that the complaints we're more directed towards where they were put in the game? a mini-game when talking to an NPC, Hacking etc.Tenlar Scarflame wrote: ↑Thu, 18. Well obviously, it's like the movie "Overdrawn at the Memory Banks" playing "Casablanca" in it's movie to which MST3K stated "Don't play a good movie in your crappy movie".
More to the topic, I would definitely be all in for some casino-type shenanigans when you need a break from space for a while. I think they said Rebel Galaxy Outlaw will give you the chance to gamble for rare/unique/otherwise more expensive ship parts, which could be a really cool idea to draw on.
Side note, it's dangerous to say anything positive about "mini games" in the title of a thread around here... easy for Rebirth players to interpret that the wrong way and go "NOOOO NOT THE POINTLESS TIMING-BASED CHARISMA CHECKS AGAIN"
They just seemed out of place there. In the right section of the game they would of been more warmly received.
Like if the Charisma Check Game was instead repairing the engine of a ship your on that is being attacked and you needed to get out of a tight spot, but you needed to balance the engines frequency power output blah blah blah to stop the engine from blowing a fuse which happens when you fail, but successfully? You fix enough of the engine to get the ship moving again out of harms way?
That would make it more exhilarating, like some scene out of a sci-fi movie where the engineer has a life or death decision to make, get the engine running or abandon ship?

Like that episode of South Park, with Guitar Hero, Kyle buys a game where he chases a dragon which is a euthanism for heroin.

I liked Rebirth, but I didn't like ALL it's features.
But still, it didn't get in the way of my enjoyment of the game overall.
You have to bite the bullet and get over it, not everything in the game is going to be catered just for you or even me for that matter.
Learn to compromise.
Also.. X3 had mini-games, I remember the Terraformer CPU Ship Game where you had to perform a series of mini-games in order to gain access to the Terraformer CPU ship.
Nobody complained about that getting in the way of completing a storyline mission?
It's how they were implemented and forced on people that is the biggest gripe, again, doesn't stop you playing an X Game.

Re: I love to see more Mini Games on Stations.
I clearly remember the Sudoku puzzle for the CPU ship. There WERE complaints. I had to look up a solution on the forum the next morning, then read up on Sudoku puzzles, figure out how to solve one, and then go back into the game to finish the stupid thing. It was necessary to complete the plotline, and halted my night's playing session until I could figure out what was needed. There was absolutely no way that I'd have figured out how to solve the puzzle on the spot without knowing what a Sudoku puzzle was. To me, that's an unnecessary obstruction in the way of the player, not a fun or optional addition to the game.spankahontis wrote: ↑Wed, 7. Nov 18, 14:48Also.. Casino gambling added into the game, fine as long as it's entirely optional, although I personally have no use for it, and feel that the resources would be better spent somewhere else. Having a station casino that LOOKS like a gambling haven, THAT is immersive to me, whether or not you can actually play the games or even go into the room. I want the universe to appear real and lived-in, not to spend or waste time on unwanted distractions inside of a game which is a more welcome distraction.
I agree that how and where they've been implemented is the biggest gripe.

Your immersion comes very cheaply then. I just see another ship with a name on it. Does not add a jot of immersion for me whatsoever. Also I find it really annoying when people use the following in a reply to other peoples ideas... "...the resources would be better spent somewhere else." Well maybe you would like to expand on this and tell us just where you think those resources should be spent.
To me this is just meaningless, it implies that there is something more important that should be worked on, without specifying what.

There's always more important stuff that could be worked on as opposed to lame minigames. While we may not have the project plan for all development, it's a safe assumption there is always something that can be tweaked, re-worked, or added that would impact the entire gaming audience, and the core game as opposed to something only a few might enjoy, ala minigames.ZaphodBeeblebrox wrote: ↑Thu, 8. Re: I love to see more Mini Games on Stations.
Minigames aren't a bad thing per se. But they get to be if they're somewhat thrust onto the player's throat, are badly designed or integrated in the main game.
Minigames in Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, are absolutely optional (but for achievements), well-rounded and yet fully integral to the environmental/lore side of the game.
Frankly, minigames in Rebirth were on the other side of the spectrum. Often mandatory and repetitive, ultimately for no apparent reason or logic, both in practice and story.
If, like the devs have replied repeatedly in the last few days and weeks, Egosoft is on machines-full-ahead mode for the release, I think we would be all the more happier if they concentrated their limited time, resources and manpower on the main core game.

Or you are perhaps projecting and think that a small sample of forumites is an indicator for the whole X game community. I don't care either way but IF they are minigames they would hopefully be all very optional but make sense where they are. Like an arcade game machine. Space Rogue (circa 1989) had one of these and it was great fun. Mini games can be good and we don't get to tell the developers what they can and can't put in their games.wizaerd wrote: ↑Thu, 8. Re: I love to see more Mini Games on Stations.
If someone wants to play minigame during playing X4 then it is possible very easy:
- Buy Android or Apple mobile.
- In the mobile in app market choose any mini-games from approximately 3 000 000 available. Everyone can found games that he likes a lot.
- Play those games while your ship in X4 is moving from point A to point B. Or while you waiting then your first station will be build. Advantage is that you have second "monitor" (phone display) and you still can see whats happening in X4.

I'm sorry, where exactly did I state what the developers can and cannot add to their game? Oh, that's right, I didn't. Re: I love to see more Mini Games on Stations.
So far ive enjoyed the employment minigames, conversation and quality hunting, the collection minigames, crafting and the rare stuff, and the loot box minigames, collection/hunting. Simple and they mesh into the world properly.
The highway minigame i actually was unaware of. It's far too sensitive to maneuver within the highway because even coming close to a wall sucks you out. And the speed isnt high enough to even need to bother; just situate yourself at the top and let go.
If the controls were tighter and the speed more relevant i could see the minigame being quite engaging.
One easy fix would be to drastically slow the Skunk's acceleration and perhaps lower the speed of npcs in the highway. This would lenghten the time spent needing to dodge around traffic.
Id be happy if these minigames were copied directly into X4, although the "finding good employees" needs to be a wee bit faster.

Oh god no please no lol... that highway traffic is literally the most frustrating idea ever. It should be removed and all highway users just travel at the same speed so i can get in and not have to worry about playing dodgems or potentially being bounced outside the highway all together.Veeshan wrote: ↑Thu, 8. I would hope that the core game-play was in place when they announced this release over a year ago. That they have spent the time since working hard on the UI and fixing any bugs from the Beta testers. So they should have time to add little extras that make the game more entertaining.

It's not a 1 to 1 ratio. You don't need every part of a team to work on everything at the same time. And the mini games would likely be done way before this late date at any rate. I don't think it would impact the development of the game like you are projecting. And again can you chill out? We don't actually know if there will even BE any at this point and if there were you cannot do anything about it now.wizaerd wrote: ↑Thu, 8. Nov 18, 18:52
