X4 with a Intel HD530 integrated graphics unit?? YES!

Post by -=SiR KiLLaLoT=- » Thu, 14. Feb 19, 20:48

I will be brief...

In practice my poor GPU is dead (GTX970) and at the same time the Beta 2.0 has been released ...
Waiting for the warranty repair and looking forward to trying the new version of the game, I asked myself:

Who knows what is capable of doing the HD530 of my i7-6700k!?!

Well yes!

You'll never believe it, but these days, I've been able to try the X4 beta with the INTEGRATED GPU!

Of course, I had to set the graphics to less than the minimum and set the resolution to 1366x768 (which test seems to go the same way as the 1280x720), but ...
The game manages to keep 50FPS in the main menu!

This translates into 10-15 FPS when I find myself in my HUGE headquarters, fluctuating between 25-50 FPS in the remaining situations.

If you're wondering how it's possible I do not even know!
The fact is that an Intel HD530 always remains a card compatible with the vulkan and directx 12, and I found that in addition to the standard 1GB of shared system RAM as VRAM,
Windows 10 virtualizes another 7GB of system RAM for a total of 8GB of video RAM!

This is incredible!

I leave you a couple of screenshots as a souvenir

Who says that Egosoft would not have been able to optimize X4? :D :D

Thanks for your work guys, keep it up! ;)

Intel has done an incredible job with their integrated graphics chips in the last 10 years or so. Definitely impressive that it can handle something as detailed as X4, though. That's awesome!

If Egosoft is interested in this topic they read it without you using a clickbait title. Please change it to something more descriptive.

I have a 9th gen series processor and it definitly does not work at all for me with the integrated GPU. When you say that Windows is allocating another 8 Gb of Video RAM I guess you have more then 8 in total, do you? 16 Gb seems to be a minimum requirement for this to work then.

Code: Select all

Yes, i have 16GB of system ram and the DXDIAG show me about 7656BM of shared VRam.

Click

I can play well with 1366x768 and level detail ultra LOW :D

Thank you :)

I tried a little bit around and I think my problem are the outdated graphics drivers from 2018/04 (v23).
Sadly, apparently Intel drivers are vendor specific, so I have to wait for HP to update :(

If I can make this work on my Ultrabook somehow...

Really surprised this works for you so far.

Technically it seems that the mobile and desktop GPU have the same operating frequencies (despite the consumption in watts is almost half for the mobile version), so in theory, X4 should run well as happens to me.

Try checking with the intel driver tool if there are better drivers than those currently installed.

My drivers version is 25.20.100.6519 of 9 Jan 2019

Let me know if you also see some good results because here is the future of X universe and its IMprobable conversion on smartphones!

Yeah, the driver tool aborts with the message that the computer "refuses" to install the drivers due to my vendor using vendor specific drivers. :/

Now I want to have a Switch version, though :D :P

Try to download this and install normally, otherwise you can to try a manually or forced installation.

PS: what is your notebook model? ^_^

Ah I thought this is what you meant with driver tool. This Installation program aborts with the "refuses to install" message, even though HP is linking to this page on their support center, Windows update only Downloads the HP Driver as does the HP Driver Utility tool.
I have an HP Spectre x360, 2018. The HP Driver website only lists the 2018/05/28 Driver as the latest one.

Well, I think I have to wait but I have this strong suspiscion HP is never ever going to update their driver - money.

IT FREAKIN WORKS! :O
My thin 1 kg x360 is able to play X4 Foundations on low o.O Sure, not the greatest gaming experience but it is actually quite decent! Nice, now I can play on the train :D
How awesome is that? And quite interesting as well, you don't need an expensive gpu, just the vram.

It only works with the newest Intel DCH Drivers (v25).

Totally a good way! I'm currently sinking an embarassing amount of time on Into The Breach on that wonder-tablet, and I'm scared of the time when I'll properly start a Zelda game :D

Any kind of X game on the Switch would be terrible news for my better half!

To keep in topic, I was equally amazed when I discovered several years ago that my 2008 HP with an Intel T9300 and integrated graphics was perfectly capable of running X3 TC, albeit at lowest detail and far from 60 fps smooth. Luckily I discovered this some years after getting out of my X3 addiction, portable X would have killed what little there was of my social life. :D
