I think I found some use for Carriers :D

Step 1 - pick your carrier - the bigger the profile, the better - Condor seems perfect (both shape and bridge visibility), Zeus is OK, Collossus is meh.

Step 2 - load it fully with spare crew.

Step 3 - apply fancy painting of your choice - I picked up "Roadkill", and I just regret it doesn't come up with orange or yellow instead of white:

Step 4 - take a stroll to the location where there is a lot of free ships with "clear the mines" missions (in my game for some reason HQ is such place - it you visit HQ for venture frequently, I bet the same is for you).

Step 5 - pick your target, face toward it:

Step 6 - full forward:

Step 7 - boom boom boom (anticlimactic) BOING (anticlimactic).

Step 8 - Roll around your target or reapeat approach from another angle.

Step 9 - profid due to a lot of spare crew and M-size landing pad on Carrier.

Conclusions:
- no collision dammage (kinda ok for me)
- no collison physics - you can ram huge carrier at tiny transport and the transport is "imovable object" (it would be good if smaller object would be pushed some distance...not particulary half a sector, buy at least some distance).
- Odysseus might be better due to better speed and agility that allow better precision. Phoenix (due to shape) would be good, but it lacks M-size dock :(

+1 Cool, love this idea, my save is absolutely littered with abandoned ships  and most of the time can't be bothered to do the mine clearing any more. So will definitely give this a go

The Paranid supply ship also is quite good at this since it is practically a giant surf board. Modifying it with an exceptional strafe/rotation modification would make it even better.

No need for service crew even. Since it has so few guns chances of losing any of them is minimal and even then its 100 repair drones combined with your 5/5 skill (yes player is a 5/5 captain) will repair them fast.

What I do is abuse OOS boarding mechanics - just load a ship with marines, fly it into the relevant sector. Teleport into it, and from the map right click -> board on all the abandoned ships, then teleport to somewhere else. Since mines don't work OOS and boarding is glitchy, the ships will switch to being yours a couple seconds later and you can set them to fly off.

You lose shields and some equipment on the ship as it counts as "boarding", but so much less hassle than clearing mines or capturing it yourself.
