[Suggestion] Fix the base game before launching DLC

Post by Lander1979 » Thu, 5. Dec 19, 22:13

I see almost on a daily basis problems being reported(MOSTLY but not always on the Steam Forums) with various input methods such as Joysticks, HOTAS setups and the like (I myself have been struggling with a Joystick related issue for 6 months now with no solution in sight). I also see many threads where customers are unhappy that there is DLC that contains what they consider should be part of the base game, not optional add-ons. This is exacerbated by there still being many bugs in the release of the base game, and there often being NO feedback from the Devs(Especially on Steam).

The main issue here is that usually the release of DLC packs for a game signifies that the base game is polished and relatively bug free, this is NOT the case with x4(it appears that the Devs are producing DLC for a game whilst bug fixing it at the same time). The bugs and half implemented features still present in the base game combined with paid DLC make it appear to the customer that they have paid for only half of a game, with the rest of the game being held at ransom behind a paywall.

Egosoft would appear to be more genuine to it's customer base if glaring problems in the base game were attended to BEFORE launching more DLC. It would also expedite the fixing of bugs if the Devs weren't split between the two tasks. Egosoft would also appear more caring if it were more Verbose with regards to feedback in the Tech Support Forums both here and on Steam(no feedback often feels like nobody cares).

Please polish the base game and make it feel like a whole game before adding DLC, and please start responding to us more often when we post(even if it is just a simple 1 or 2 word response like "message received").

don´t worry, Egosoft has made it very clear that a stable 3.0 release is basis for the dlc´s, which may not mean that everyones wish could be realized.

This is the official venue for Egosoft, not steam. If people on steam cant be bothered to actually follow instructions and come post here, they have no realm in which they can complain. Also they've already stated in many threads that 3.0, if stable, will launch with all its fixes before the DLC, they won't postpone it.

Actually they have a fairly large realm they can complain in... the Steam Forums... and when that fails their fallback is to give a Negative Review, which can damage Steam sales. Ignoring the Steam Forums is NOT a good idea!

You know, you can complain about the buffalo hunting in Australia too. You can complain all day long about thrashing about in the bush and not finding any buffalo. But it would be wiser to hunt where the buffalo are.

The thing is, the customer is always right, and when that customer is on Steam they don't care about this website, many don't even know this website even exists. They are also extremely short of patience and will just give the game a negative review and move on. Alot of them will even relish the chance to fling some dirt in the air and make a scene as they go. EVERY game on Steam has a Steam Forum... just for that game. Gamers will %99.99 of the time ONLY interact with one another and the game devs through that forum (It's a single click away from the game's launch button, alot easier than opening a web browser and searching for a website and then for the respective forum on that website).

Also I don't see what the availability of buffalo in a Country not known for it's population of buffalo has to do with the price of tuna in Wisconson.

Ego pays more active attention to the steam forums than most developers. Throwing a fit because your particular post didnt get you a soothing massage of dev attention is weird.

p.s. content updates are not 'things that should have been in the base game' they are what DLC is *for*
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

Emy is a great bloke but he's not a dev, just a forum mod(He has Dev tags so he can moderate the workshop).

That isn't even the tip of the iceberg.
If you think Im upset or emotional that is your opinion. I am just trying to help give Egosoft a nudge in the right direction. :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6s9sXjqCME
Video is on steam store page also

2018 Release Games Base|Collectors Edition (Base + 2 DLC)

You have the choice to buy whichever version you want
If you bought the Base Game
you have the option to pay to upgrade to Collector Edition.
or Accept that your purchasing the DLC seperately.

I think there are people that are expecting the same outcome as X-Rebirth.
Where the DLCs was haded out of $0 although the Home of Light was given to those that BETA Tested it extensively

I'm rather amazed that anyone still thinks the devs have not been fixing the base game since first release, and that they haven't seen the many explanatory posts here from individual devs as to why they cannot be as active on these forums (nor especially the often bottomless timesink called Steam discussion) as they would like to be whilst maintaining the necessary progress in their areas of dev expertise.

What some players may also overlook is that the work involved in developing new content and gameplay for DLC purposes often identifies, fixes or avoids issues that remain in the base game. Sure, new work also runs the risk of introducing totally new issues and that is why there are usually public and/or private beta testing phases. I see that the OP has indeed contributed to public beta testing of X4 - which is to be applauded. :)
