New Split fighters

Post by SwizzleStick86 » Sat, 4. Apr 20, 13:00

So what are y'alls opinions on the new Split fighters? (Primarly as player ship)

I think the Asp is good for patrols (cheaper than others). But for a player ship, I'm torn. The Mamba has very good maneuverability, heavier shielding, and a slimmer profile (smaller hit box = takes less hits IS combat). But only 2 weapons. The Chimera is faster, more weapons, but I feel like it's less maneuverable combined with the larger profile make it take more hits IS combat. Both look cool so in aesthetics it's a 50/50.

I haven't played with the balaur yet.

Do yourself a favour and get a Balaur - it is the "other" version of the Mamba. One less shield, two additional weapons. I love the Mamba for it's design but prefer the Balaur nowadays for it's combat performance.

Both are awesome because they both have a "ragtop mode".

Not exactly like the Mamba - as it has more (2000 points) hull plating. Just try it out - it's not that expensive :)

I love the balor but the guns at top are blinding when I fire all the dakka dakka. Small issue. Awesome ship

As player ships I like the Mamba and the Dragon.

Tried the Cobra but as all drone carriers it drifts hard, even worse with the high speed of split ships. (This is the reason I hate the Nemesis as well)

The Peregrine has been my favorite for some time in the M class and I don't see this changing with this DLC.

The Chimera is a glass cannon. Good for high blood pressure combat, but not good in X games as you usually fight multiple enemies.

Haven't tried the Balor and the Asp yet.

The Buffalo is a nice "light destroyer".

The Rattlesnake is ofc top on my list for player destroyers.

The Raptor will be the only carrier I ever fly once I have the credits for it. Mod L plasma turrets for range and wreck stations.

So generally split ships are very player friendly.

The Raptor looks awesome, and I'd literally just built my first one, last time I played.

I'd been using the Dragon (the megafast one with barely any shields) as a player ship too, but was spending more time repairing the hull than fighting. (I'm no combat ace...)

Working on the rep with Zyarth to get the rest of the blue prints to build more of their capital class ships, but the whole range of ships make the existing ones look pretty bland.

And a Raptor video (with dragon docked). - I love the tunnel right through it! https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnoYsE1M89YrvzgzOkp ... h?e=3HBZvc (I'm no movie director, either! LOL)
“Man, my poor head is battered,” Ed said.

“That explains its unusual shape,” Styanar said, grinning openly now. “Although it does little to illuminate just why your jowls are so flaccid or why you have quite so many chins.”

“I…” Had she just called him fat? “I am just a different species, that’s all.”

“Well nature sure does have a sense of humour then,” Styanar said. “Shall we go inside? It’d not be a good idea for me to be spotted by others.”

Nice! It's going to take me a while before I have one of those (did a new game start as split, plus having to work and 4 kids, not much time for my gaming lol..)

M Sized Cobra is actually my new favorite thing.

3 Front guns, 4 turrets (So close in dps to a Nemesis)
2 Shield sockets (unusual for Split)
Exteme Speed (Mine is modded up to 1200m/s)
Above 30K hull (together with the shield it's tanky as heck)

The S Dock doesn't look terribly out of place like on other ships.

As for S sized ships....I like the Mamba a LOT. I know that it has weak weaponry (only 2) but it's nimble, has 2 small shields and just looks amazing. Plus the cockpit on the DOWNside of the ship. That's rather unusual.

Plus one I'm liking on the mamba still is its smaller profile combined with how nimble makes it easy to avoid incoming fire...since I started using the Chimera I've gotten blown up so many times lol (plus I'm taking my time before doing the HQ plot so i can't modify them yet). Then I'm thinking the cobra as my personal yacht with dragon escort, and from there move up to rattlesnake etc, but keep the mamba with me on any cap ship I go to.

They did great on the split ships, they even managed to make the appearance portray the size as well! They look huge, but if you use other ships/stations as scale they're not that much different in physical size to the old ships.

The Balaur is a stunning ship and fun to play.

I'm planning to try all of the fighters before I start mod-upgrading it (high energy catalyst runs out fast lol). Next time I get on o need to capture one before I 100% commit to the mamba.
