Why did some Argon fighters turn hostile?

Post by Wheem » Sat, 4. Apr 20, 21:52

I just had some Argon fighters turn hostile to me in the opening moments of a Young Gun start, and I have no idea why. Here's the sequence of events:

1) Find the HQ plot scan location immediately after undocking, and get the mission started.

2) See some Fallen Family (FAF) ships near the Equipment Dock. One group is a Rattlesnake + Asp, and the other is a pair of Asps. They're blue to me, but hostile to the Argon (station destroys the Rattlesnake's escort, and other Argon ships engage the destroyer).

3) I fly out and engage the pair of Asps, successfully capturing both of them (one even still had shields intact afterwards, which is very rare).

4) Thinking things were off to a very nice start, I claim and repair both ships, then start and complete a nearby repair station mission. As I pull up to the repair location (in one of the captured Asps), a station security vessel flew very close and seemed to scan me, though they never verbally said anything (I was standing and getting ready to enter my spacesuit at the time, so I assumed that was why).

5) I repaired the station's leak, then flew out to where the Argon and Rattlesnake were still fighting. After a brief time, the Argon finished off the FAF's destroyer, and in the last few seconds of the battle I noticed that several of the Argon fighters were red/hostile to me. The Asp that I was in didn't have any weapons on it, and I double checked my cargo/inventory immediately and didn't see anything illegal. While looting the remains of the Rattlesnake, the Argon fighters seemed to ignore me and simply fly off, so I thought that perhaps them being red was a display bug.

6) After grabbing the loot from the Rattlesnake, I landed at the nearby Equipment Dock to sell off unneeded consumables and pick up a pilot for the ship, so that I could fly out and retrieve the other Asp + my starting Elite. However, during the time that I was on the station, the hostile Argon fighters destroyed both of my ships that were floating in space, and appeared to have doubled back and were coming for me, at which point I got irritated and quit to desktop.

Is there a bug involved here? I was never given any verbal message of any kind, nor did I see a relations hit, nor did I ever fire on the Argon - even by accident. While on the Equipment Dock I noticed that the Split Combat Engines Mk. 1 showed as requiring a military license from the Argon, which is odd, but I don't see how that would have affected a station security vessel scan. It just doesn't make any sense to me...

I had created a save right after the second ASP pilot bailed out, and it appears as though a bug I've experienced/reported in the past (and was somewhat improved) is still present in some cases: Argon ships that had apparently targeted the fighter when it was still a FAF ship don't change their orders. The AI will fire on and destroy those fighters if I don't claim them, and will become hostile to me if I do. In the attached save there's an Argon Nova (Designation: KXX-019) straight ahead of me that will fire on and destroy both already-abandoned fighters.
