Can't go into fast travel mode

What am I missing here? There are no enemies around so I'm not being hit, my travel engines show 3/3 with full hull and shields in the Loadout display. Could it be because my repair drones are out? My speed switches to blue for about 3s, I hear the sound of it spooling up, then it just goes back to white and thrust speed.

You are probably colliding with a drone of yours, which cancels travel drive. Try recalling them first if you can.

They are not wrong, you can get them to come back in by disabling them from launching.
