Coordinated Attack - Overriden subordinates behaviours

Why are all subordinates within a fleet are pulled for the coordinated attack? why are my s class fighters that are on "intercept" mission for my carrier pulled into the fray (i.e. a position is set for them; attack command is given once the triggerconditions have been met), shouldnt they keep their default behaviour? i t thought only the vessels in the "attack" group are considered for the coordinated attack order
