Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
Huge solar Sail doesn't fit the combat ship and auxilary ship doesn't need good combat performance.
Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
That's def not the carrier. The nose on the carrier is much wider and the ring protrudes from the starboard side of the ship.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
A sail? Seriously? I'd say it is a solar clock, not a ship... the same way the Paranid Ships are hairdryers for having the long keel...
Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
So, theoretically, I could shoot nothing but the enormous sail, and destroy the whole ship, right?
Not a fan of the sail personally.

Imersion breaker...
Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
Good point.
In XRebirth those big antennas on top of capitals were independent entities. Whatever this is supposed to be (if this is even a non-story ship) I hope the artist makes this independent from the rest of the structure as well.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
why would a ship need a sail in space? makes no sense

That's not a sail! That's radiators!
Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
Yeah! Science!
Most probably, yeah. XR Terran ships had fins as radiators. However why do the other ships not have any of those radiators and it happens to be just that particular ship?

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
Unless it is some kind of special ship that is supposed to travel a long way over a very long time conventionally, it isnt going to be a solar sail, but rather be solar panels or radiators.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
My first impressions it that it looks out of place. I wonder if it is there for some practical purpose like resupply or charging a weapon?
I think if the sail animates that sells it to me, if its just stuck on for visual effects then I'll just avoid owning one.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
Personally I don't like it, it feels so odd... But I think the real question we should ask is if whether the ship could be destroyed by just shooting at the sail... If that's true then it could be a disadvantage as the hitbox would be unreasonably big.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
sails in space is a real thing, they can move objects by solar wind. it's even so much momentum transformation you can in theory move whole whole planet (if you have enough square space)
so scientific fact (100%) can you move that amount of mass (doubtful need a whole lot more sails then)

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
This is also my concern. Just gives wayyyy more area to hit than any other ship really.
I hope that maybe this sail can be an "optional" add-on for the ship in order to produce energy cells for maintenance/ship construction.
Overall though, the sail to me seems very out of place, especially with a massive engine on the back of the ship.

Re: The 'sail' on the Terran carrier
The only thing I ask now from this, is when the ship stops....does the sail collapse down? I would relate this to a normal sea sail that needs to stop and lowers its sails.abisha1980 wrote: ↑Tue, 2. Mar 21, 18:51sails in space is a real thing, they can move objects solar wind.
