Lets quickly review Terran colonization history:
1) Terrans first discover gate network, colonize stuff, unleash terraformers, cut off from space. Remaining colonist become defunct state of Argon Federation (that trough it's history can hold together as bad as Terrans can colonize ).
2) Terrans got re-connected to the network, try to colonize stuff again with Operation Cantera and Torride colonist, got cut of again. Remaining colonist become defunct state of Cantera Republic, and Torride got with Terracorp.
3) Round 3, Terrans back again and try to colonize space using private effort and push out of second class citizens called Pioneer Initiative...
...what could go wrong?

Re: Terrans cannot into space?
After X3 Reunion I don't think Egosoft gives a shit about the plot anymore. Nothing has to make sense as long as it provides a justification for missions.
Re: Terrans cannot into space?
Well to be fair, exploration and expansion is pretty much a key thing to survival. Or do you think man should have stayd in that cave and never venture beyond and asking a simple question "why?"
Terrans will always push outwards, maybe futile exercise but only history will tell that...eventually when the universe dies. BTW everytime they push out they might try different tactics, albeit might end in the same bloody mess.

Re: Terrans cannot into space?
By the time XR came around with Teladi and Home of Light the Terrans were just a topic of idle chit chat that the NPCs made. Seems the plot shifted to all of the other factions but was poorly developed tbh. Basically it turned into a trade simulator.
