[Proposition] Ships stats research improvements

In late game, when you have a lot of resources, bases and money, it's difficult to find some fun. You can buy any ship you like, but there are basic stats, which can be not enough high as you want for exactly this ship, you want to fly.
My proposition is to add a new feature to increase basic ship's stats.

How do I see it. For example:
1) You build a module, such as venture module at your HQ
2) You're choosing the stat you want to try to increase (for example, shield's recharge rate, or weapon power, on movement speed, or rotation rate, or...), asking Boso to do some improvements
3) You're choosing the ship you have, and moving it to the module
4) You need to collect the amount of resources in the storage
5) When you collect the resources needed to start research, timer starts (for example, 1 hour for M-ship)
6) After the time is over, you have a chance to lose your ship (it will explode), or increase chosen stat for a few percents
7) If you want, you can try again with this (or another) ship.

If you will be patient and lucky, you can increase stats of your favourite ship, and fly it all the time (or lose it in another attempt of improving) without a critical influence to the galaxy (as the addition for already existing ships modification system)
