Possible bug since 1.5, owned AI pilots can't pick up inventory cargo - WAI

I am not sure if this is a bug. In 1.5 (when I started playing the game), 1.6 and 2.0 beta, if you give a ship orders to collect cargo, they will appear to collect everything, but any inventory items they collect seem to vanish. This happens out of sector, in sector, in sector with you in the ship as a passenger. Is this the intended behavior of the collect cargo command or just a bug?

Yes, that's intended *for now*. There have been lots of previous threads on this topic in all builds since release version 1.0 -
example.
It is not known if the devs will leave it as it is, prevent NPC pilots of yours collecting inventory drops, or allow your NPC pilots to collect into the player inventory. Time will tell.
