[2.50] Possible Memory Leak?

Post by Nexuscrawler » Sun, 2. Jun 19, 20:12

Since my game is becoming slower and slower over time and begins to stutter, I have to regularly restart it.
So I tried to test what the actual problem might be and started a new game.
All I did was to fly to Argon Prime, dock at the Shipyard and then I left the game running for two days.

It looks like memory increased slowly from 4.3 GB to 7.6 GB (~3.3 GB) over the course of 2 days and then started to use a swap file, which had a serious impact on performance.
I guess there still is/are some memory leaks somewhere.

Just for the sake of additional data, was the game running fullscreen/in background all that time, or did you alt-tab in/out? If yes, how often?

The game was running in background most of the time, because I used the PC during the day for other stuff while the game was running.
Over night the game ran in full-screen.

I alt-tabbed in and out every now and then to see if memory was increasing.
Maybe 20-30 times in total.

I noticed a slow memory leak also with 2.50. Not as severe as 2.21 but one nonetheless.

This is a different leak. The one you're referring to is caused by reloading (memory usage increases with each reload). This one - by simply leaving the game running.

It is indeed a different leak, but we're investigating possible memory leaks on a more general level too and are working on fixes for several right now. Some of the ones we've found could manifest themselves during play, and could therefore explain what the OP is reporting. Note, however, that not every increase in memory usage over time represents a memory leak. There are other expected, and entirely valid, situations in which this can happen.
