[Resolved][2.5, Untested Explorer] Cannot find Boso Ta scanning node

Hello folks,

I've spent the past few hours trying to find the original scanning point for the PHQ plot, and while I believe it to be random, I've read plenty of posts about scanning "a couple stations" and I'm about 30+ discount type nodes (red dot) and 40+ mission type nodes (sparkles) scanned without success.
What I tried:

• Going around a few sectors trying to find a more amendable node

• Going to my beginning sector and scanning the station closest to my starting point, repeatedly

• Searching for various tips and triggers on the internets

I'm very much at a loss. While not necessary, I'd like to unlock teleport and upgrade modules, but I have no idea what / if i'm doing wrong. Does someone have any idea? I can upload the save on request.

I started this game a couple days ago, checked my log 3 times, nothing anywhere.

and by scanning the stations, you're entering scan mode (shift +2) and finding the red blinky things? AFAIK, the first mission offer one should be your PHQ quest chain.

Yes. Both red blinking and sparkles/rainbow types. Never saw the offer for the PHQ, and nothing in my log, but I have over 20 discounts on stations so I guess I got that going for me.

It's not random at all. It's always the very first "sparkling" node that you scan. That you haven't found the mission is mighty weird. Are you sure you haven't dismissed it by accident?

@radcapricorn That's what I thought too, but I guess I must have missed it or cancelled the scan somehow. If you know of a way to get the node again (though XML editing or something), i'll gladly take it

I'm poking around. found a node already but was a pirate mission offer. What was your starting sector?

I just found it in Argon Prime. I doubt it matters what sector it needs to be in, though. I accepted 2 other missions before this one was offered, all at the same station, ARG High Tech Factory 1.

I don't think starting sector means anything, I started the HQ mission from a SCA station in Nopileus fortune one time, just so the protect that ship part does not take long since the gates are very close

Where you start the game doesn't matter. What matters is who owns the sector you take the mission in. So in effect you can pick and choose, for getting the gift ship that you'd like. Teladi - Osprey. Paranid - Gorgon. Argon - Cerberus. I think neutral sectors default to Teladi (i.e. you get the Osprey).

ok ya, i reloaded and spent a little bit scanning the closest defence platform to where your save was in and the mission offer did eventually pop. So yeah, sector doesn't matter. Anywho, in both cases the mission was offered seemingly randomly. I would say try your luck again, stick around one station and give it a little time. Scan nodes do respawn after a couple of minutes, though at random locations on the station.

During the "Escape!" stage, just before you get to the point (as in, point in space) where Boso would ask you to escort a freighter, there is always an ownerless M ship that you can claim via space suit. What kind of ship you get depends on where you started the mission chain, as outlined above.

Finally found what I was doing wrong. I WAS actually getting the mission, but I mistakenly changed the original shortcut for the interaction menu, so the game was not telling me to press F (or the equivalent that i mistakenly setup). The pirate missions were giving me an icon and were available in the mission manager, but the boron actively needs to be spoken to by pressing the interaction menu key (and if you don't, it just fizzles and disappears).
