[SOLVED] Fatal Error
Hi,
I run X4 on Linux (Mint 19.3) through Steam. Today I had to force close X4 after switching to the desktop while it was running because I couldn't get back to it (which I usually don't have a problem with). When I wanted to restart it I got that strange message box pop up:
Looks like vulkan got messed up, but what's up with that weird colouring in that message and that "/home/jenkins/workspace/X4_Steam/src/xgfx/be/vulkan/video_vk.cpp" path, which has nothing to do with anything in my home folder (my username is not "jenkins" for the record)...? I didn't dare clicking on the "ok" button, but just closed the window, since this message looks so suspiciously like a scam, not very professional if that's a real message IMO... I was wondering if that had anything to do with a explorer extension that I subscribed to in the workshop before, but then again, I can't really imagine, since the problem started after I had to force close X4. Anyway, so I uninstalled and reinstalled X4 completely through steam, but alas, still the same message when I want to start it up So, any idea how I can fix that situation...?

Re: Fatal Error
Roll back your nvidia driver maybe?
I think I saw the same problem and had to change back to nvidia driver 435.21
Let me know if that fixed it.

Re: Fatal Error
I never had a problem with the Nvidia drivers, is it even possible that X4 /Steam corrupts those drivers...?

Re: Fatal Error
I'm pretty sure I got that same error when I updated to 455 drivers (if I remember correctly). I just rolled back to 435 and it went away. Not sure about steam. I'm running on GOG install.
And the 455 drivers worked for everything else... Just X complained about it.
Hope it helps

Re: Fatal Error
Ok, I have 460 drivers and I didn't have a problem with them and X4 before. I don't really see the relation, since it worked before, unless X4 / Steam corrupts them somehow, which I have a hard time believing, I'd rather think that some vulkan file may have gotten corrupted... Anyway, I may give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks for your replies in any case

Re: Fatal Error
Maybe see Bernd's thread here - if that doesn't help then please post some information and wait for the devs to return to work on Monday.

Eyesore colour ...
Looks like you get a VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST. A search reveals several possible reasons, all tied to bloody nvidia.

Hi, I just tried it again for the first time since yesterday and I'm happy to report that it works again! I guess a good night of sleep and a healthy reboot is all that was needed So, sorry for the alarming thread, but that psychedelic popup just got me Thanks for all your input nonetheless, much appreciated!
