UI scaling and lists length

Post by gorman2040 » Fri, 26. Mar 21, 02:57

Hi,

I am playing X4 4.00, english version but I have seen that issue before 4.00.
While I am in some lists, the dialog box is sometimes cropped and I am unable to complete an order.

I am sharing a complete folder with DxDiag, vulkaninfo, 2 videos showing the issue and a savegame if needed.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I am using UI scale setting of 0.7 and playing at resolution 3840x2160. I have noticed that those issues don't seem to occur when I go back at scale 1.0

Video01 shows the transfer personnel menu being cropped and unusable. If I close the right panel, I can access the contextual menu OK.
Video02 shows the player asset list, you will notice the list shorten when clicking + in front of the fleet entry. This is 100% repeatable.

Thank you for looking into this.

I thought this had been fixed in 4.10 beta 6 but it is still happening.
It looks related to large player assets as I wasn't able to experience this in my new game start after 48+ hours.

I can reproduce the issue with my save where I have 433 ships (organized in fleets and groups) and 15 stations.
The share is not available anymore but I can re-upload new files on demand.

Please don't wait to be asked before uploading files. All it does is delay any chance of anyone being able to help.

Sorry about that, here is the link to two videos and the save.

This is what I gathered from my testing.

- There is two separate issues.
One is the player asset list gets shorter/cropped when you expand a large group such as a fleet. This is more of a visual oddity as you are still able to scroll through the list.
The other one is, still in the player asset list, dialog menu such as ware transfer or crew transfer can be in certain cases (able to replicate but not fully understanding the criteria leading to this) missing buttons or odd format such as really small list almost impossible to scroll and read.

The first issue seems present when the UI scaling is less than 1.0, independent of resolution (tested with 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160).
The second issue is present when UI scaling is NOT 1.0 and at resolutions higher than 1920x1080 (tested with 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160).
The second issue also only happen when the right menu is showing ship information on the crew tab, I wasn't able to trigger the issue otherwise.

I was able to reproduce the issue with a new creative custom gamestart and having a large number of ships (tested with ~100 ships).

Today I had the issue happening even though my UI scaling was at 1.0.

It seems to happen a lot less with scaling at 1.0 though.

Update: Still happening in 5.0 beta 6HF1

Please share your feedback whether you experience that issue or not when scaling the UI below 1.0

This is something that comes back very often for me when doing a lot of commands through the map and I'd be glad to find a workaround.

Thanks!

Now in version 5.10

I've activated the debug log today and shortly after scaling the UI from 1.0 to 0.7, the following message popped up:

[gamestart: 52] - [Mon Apr 18 21:33:48 2022]: Error: Widget system error. Already displaying 50 shield/hull bar elements. Cannot display more. Shield/hull bar element in table cell 29/11 will be skipped.

Hope that can help troubleshooting the issue.
