How to unpack textures?

Post by omti » Sat, 19. Sep 20, 16:12

Hello,

as the title says I'm wondering how to unpack the textures for modding them. The environment ones are apparently .gz files (the content has no file ending if you unpack them with a zip program) and .dds files.

What I do is I just unpack the gz file (I use 7zip) and rename the packaged file to dds, then I remove the extension and repackage them into a .gz. Also, GIMP can open the archives right from the .gz, no need to unpack or anything.

Thanks, that works. Do you know where I can set what texture gets used? I'm currently trying to modd in some new planets (or at least some alternative textures)
