Yeah it's amazing. I hope we hear from these guys again, but I also wish I understood why stuff like this wasn't tried already in X4. It worked *so* well in XR! I fear the different shaders with Vulkan may have been part of the problem, just like with various effects. :(

After a very busy year I've continued my work on my X3/XR universe. I added the exact highways in all X Rebirth sectors as they were in the previous game andrecreated some of the XR factions like Plutarch Mining Corporation an Republic of Cantera. That's pretty amazing, like it already more then most x4 systems. I would love to see space stations built in an asteroid or something like that, but we have to wait for star citizen for that I guess.

I don't see why assets for an in-asteroid station can't be made considering the Split stations will be new models. If modders with 3D modelling skills find themselves inclined to work on station assets that could very much be a thing given enough time, even if Ego is too busy with something else.

I'd bet Egosoft will be done patching/DLC'ing/repatching X4 by the time SC is anywhere near an actual release. SC's WIP modus operandi seems lucrative enough that Chris Roberts doesn't need to finish the game any time soon.

You can make this without even touching blender.

I guess it could be done just by stitching asteroid models together, but what I had in mind mentioning modelling is something like rocky walls specifically for interiors and more factory-like decoration for an entirely themed, dockable station.

Less future-airport, more beltalowda, if you know what I mean. But I have a feeling some of the Split stuff might fit that theme too.

Can we compare notes on porting xr sectors? It is very annoying to figure out the shaders.

Are there any shaders other than XU_simple_background_neb giving trouble?

Edit: keeping in mind that 3.0b seems to be borking Nvidia's use of at least one old shader, in case you are also an Nvidia user

The shader issues involved with porting the xr sectors are extensive. We have gone as far as we can without importing assets into blender to fix them. If anyone has any progress please share it.

Any progress on this awesome work? I think it'd be awesome to see even a sample mod showing any sectors that already work. Would that be reasonable, or should I try to install what's on the github?
