Non- Steam mods crash game
Yup, that's pretty much it.
I have X4.
It's on my Steam account.
Workshop subscriptions work just fine.
Anything else will stop the game loading. I don't even get the loud Egosoft moment.
Yes, I've done what the mod authors tell me to.
So, as I know you lot are Eminent Geniuses, please tell me how I can run both Steam and , say Nexus- or Egosoft-site-derived options?
I have peanut butter cookies!

Hi Beardsteamer,
How did you install the mod(s) and which mod(s) are you trying to install?
Here is how it suppose to be:
1# Create an extensions folder either in the X4 document folder (where your saved games are) or, if that did not work, in the X4 main root folder.
2# Extract the mod(s) into that folder.
3# Start X4 and activae the mod(s) in the initial menu.
Cheers Euclid

Re: Non- Steam mods crash game
Well!
That was fast, and informative.
I obtained some mods from the Steam Workshop, by clicking "subscribe".
I obtained some from here, and from Nexus, by manually downloading them, opening the .zip or .rar and putting the folder in the "extensions" folder, in the "Program (x86)>Steam>steamapps>common>X4 Foundations" line.
I just did a search in My Documents, and found an X4 folder there. I'll make an additional "extensions" folder, and try tater trader.
This may take a while. I started having PTSD symptoms about the time they announced X:Rebirth. (The two events are not related). It makes things a bit fuzzy, and time consuming. I'll get back when I've tried that, just...don't haud yer wisht if something else comes up!
Thanks

It worked!
For the first time, in my history with X4, masses of isolated discoveries were unified and correlated by a single guided principle, that of rigid deduction from explicitly stated assumptions.
Yeah, you are Euclid!

Tatertrader breaks if put into the document folder version of extensions. Truthfully no mod should go there, but rather into the game's folder

That's good to know.
I've collected a couple that just won't come out to play, if I've put them in the Steam extensions folder.
Moving them to the one in Documents lets them do their thing happily.
I don't pretend to understand, I just smile indulgently and get on with baiting the Khaak.
