Returning to X games - what is the prefered mod manager?
What is the prefered mod manager? Steam is so trivially easy and user friendly I was surprised to see that folks hadn't really adopted it. I have used Nexus Mods w/ Vortex in the past but that is hell on earth - please tell me that isn't the recommended mod manager. What should I use?

Hi oddible,
I don't think there is a prefered mod manager. Usually I'm using the community version of the NMM but for X4 all my mods are installed manually without any mod manager involved.

Don't use the nmm. I read a lot of posts where people had problems running their mods and in many cases it was due to the mod manager.
I suggest to install them over steam or if not possible manually.

X4 mods installation is trivial compared to X3, there is no need in mod manager as game supports mods modifications of the same file by different mods so load order is so critical if mod done correctly.
Just use steam (not sure why you said people dont use it, 90% of mods are on steam) or download files directly form Nexus and put them in "extensions" folder in game root folder and then enable them in game Extensions menu.
Also, dont use NMM, it can break mods
