Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Does the EMP bomb destroy the mods? I was able to claim the Odysseus with the boarding pod when the shields were down. But it destroys the mods on board. turrets and shield gens and so on.

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
I bought mine somewhere.
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
I started afresh with 1.3, and chose the Explorer start rather than the young gun. In this second start NONE of the derelicts have been present so far, but I've not been to every location yet. However, I always see a derelict spawn whenever I go to get a "rank up" with a faction. Quite literally, I dock at the station, get my rank up, leave and a new derelict has spawned near by - usually very close to the station.
So, far, I've gotten a Frigate, Corvette, M-Class Container ship and an M-Class Gas Miner. These were for hitting level 10 standing. I wonder if I'll get something bigger at level 20?

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Just found a Cerberus Sentinel in Antigone Memorial, about 318 km "SSW" from the gate. In my game it was just past the equipment dock where the representative is.
So, all derelicts have the "not" logo?

You have to just shoot at it, best to have a ship with a center weapon, not offset, so you can more easily land the shot when the mine is dead center of your main reticle. I had a Pegasus, so I had no choice in this case.whitemonkey wrote: ↑Sun, 9. Dec 18, 17:49so where in ANT did you find it?
Question, how do you clear the mines around a ship? Can't seem to target them.
I've ranked up once or twice with many of the factions (ANT +17, ARG +21, GOP +16, HAT +14, HOP +22, TEL +21)... and I've only found the one Cerberus in ANT Mem since then. Prior to my trading/ranking up ventures (no, not the ventures that's supposed to be part of the game), I found a few derelicts (Perseus in Silent Witness XII, Odysseus in Faulty Logic VII and my other Cerberus Sentinel during the "plot" mission)Scoob wrote: ↑Mon, 10. Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
For me none of the ships in the original posts were at the locations shown, but I've found several ships in other areas (about 10 different ships in my 32h).
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
As none of the listed ships had been present so far in my Explorer start, I decided to go and look for the Odysseus, as I started quite near where it's supposed to spawn. This one IS present, though oddly it did not show up on any long-range scans. Only when I got within visual range did it appear. Not sure why I couldn't scan for this ship.
Anyway, I was wondering if this ship can be claim from the spacesuit, or if, being a Large ship, it has to have Marines? I've been around it, looking for the tell-tail static sound and damaged location, but got ambushed by six Xenon, so had to return to my ship. Back out having a look around the Odysseus again soon though!
Btw: it seems that derelicts protected by mines are spawned for missions. Unlike prior games, a ship is spawned then a mission offered. However, if you never take the mission - or even see it - the ship will still be there....somewhere. This explains the seemingly random spawns. So, my earlier rank ups then getting a ship spawn nearby almost right away, may just have been these missions triggering. Perhaps ranking up gives more missions = greater odds of ship spawns? Dunno.

I don't know if this still works but I used an EMP bomb and repaired one of the breaches. That gave me directly control over the ship.Scoob wrote: ↑Thu, 13. Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Thanks for the tip! I had several EMP bombs....in my prior game lol. Not crafted any this time though. Might try that method, or get a Marine...problem is, Marines wreck stuff, even though they're taking over an empty ship.bubbabenali wrote: ↑Thu, 13. Edit: Hmm, boarding has totally changed since I last did it! Previously, if the ship was derelict, you could just fire off one Marine and capture the target. Now, I'm having to go through the entire "breach" process etc. Sorta cool, sorta overkill for an empty ship... or I just picked the wrong option lol. Either way, it worked

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
You don't shoot it. If it has no affiliation (faction) then you scan it then send a marine to it. The marine gets stuck circling it until you're far enough away. I was within 30km of the accelerator before the marine finally boarded. Other people say to leave the sector, but it seems to be either leave the sector or get like 200km away from it.whitemonkey wrote: ↑Sun, 9. Dec 18, 23:10Quick question. Im trying to claim the Odysseus Vanguard with damaging it. I have taken the shields down to )% and hit claim and my boarding pod just flies around it. What do I need to do?
Thanks
I am absolutely certain about this. I've captured like 20 abandoned ships so far. You don't treat it as boarding. Scan it within 1km, S ships you use the spacesuit to claim, M+ you send a marine. If you send a marine, fly away and wait for it to board. If you sit there and watch, which I've done for 5 minutes, nothing happens.
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
I have found few other ships later, which seems to be added in a later stage..
It looks my post is not so helpful as I initially thought, as some of them are added random.
I will restart the game, revisit all locations and mark the ones which are consistent.

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Just a note: You don't need a marine for M ships. You scan it, you don your space suit, find a data leak and fix it. Then you can enter. No damage.
Claiming destroys shields and some of the weapons.

it looks to me that some abandoned ships will spawn once you get a certain rank of a faction and / or join a Guild.
For example: A Cerberus will spawn close to the Faction Headquater in Antigone Memorial once you get the second Rank of the Antigone Faction and then join the local Traders Guild. It will be surrounded by mines most of the times but i had it spawn without mines as well.
However the order you accept the Ranks seems to influence what Ships are spawning. If you join the Traders Guild first and then talk to the Faction Leader to get the Faction Rank, up to 4 Trade Ships to take over will spawn insead of the Cerberus.
When it comes to Boarding abandoned ships you do not need anything but your Spacesuite. Scann your target to 100 % and sneak up to the Signal.
For Marine Boarding them make sure you set all to max in the Boarding Menue. Set Ship Beahvior to Keep Distance, set condition strong/very strong in all three Boarding stages to begin. This way your new ship will not get scratch while beeing boarded.

RE> Capping, if it's an abandoned ship you just have to get in to your spacesuit, turn on scan mode, and search for the red flashing dataleak style thing (usually near the ships spacesuit docking port, you claim the ship as soon as scanning is completed.
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
I found a "Tern Sentinal" Freighter?(yes spelled correctly) it says origin unknown? in system Memory of profit IX just south of the jumpgate to Bright promise, surrounded by yellow mines (can shoot them).
It looks like Terran. Anyone else found this?

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Tern is a Teladi ship (look in their shipyards or encyclopaedia etc for the design - hint: it's a seabird)
You can shoot the mines: first tip is to use LRS; this may show up a bunch of ? spots that you can select on HUD radar (doesn't always happen, & the markers aren't necessarily persistant (maybe they''ll show up better from long range?; haven't tested as yet). SRS appears to be useless for mine detection currently
According to others, yellow mines are FoF, blue are <something> (I forget - poss track mk 1?) & red are tracking, so yellow mines are the least threat. Either way, for this particular mission type you're only likely to have a patience problem: the other two are targetable (IME). Check mine blast (AoE) radius in the encyclopaedia, likewise track range. It may be currently inacurrate but it'll at least give you an idea. I've had no problems with yellow mines at approx 1-2km range, blues at 2-3km & red trackers at 3-4km. Bear in mind that several mines may be set off if you hit a group, so try to alternate shots between closest to <target> & far away, to allow <target's'> shield to recover
Tip 2: if you fly close enough (in your ship ofc, not the suit!) to the mines you may see a tiny grey dot at the centre of the glow: this is what you shoot at. Don't get too close!
Tip 3: You can try 'spray & pray' tactics from a minimal distance, but that frequently doesn't help much. However, if you're within shooting range of the mine(s) you can use /very careful/ /tiny/ aim adjustments to identify where the 'hit dot' will land. It takes patience & skill, but the gimbal tracker will eventually lock on to a valid target (ie mine) rather than bouncing around, even if it's only 1 out of however many guns you have
Tip 4: for those 'recover ship' missions you don't need to destroy all mines, only those required for you to board the ship & fly it out of the 'field & back to its station safely. IMO it's best if you clean up the junk completely tho
IME the 'retrieve ship' missions (when you have to dock the pilotless, mine-surrounded ship back at a station) tend to spawn these 'untargetable' mines: expect to see several more of these missions appearing as you do (at least) the Teladi trade mission chain (unless it's patched out ofc )

After my post, I searched around the map and found a few miner ships and a transport, that appear to follow the "after rank up appearance"...Halodrian wrote: ↑Thu, 13. But I got the Cerberus in ANT Mem with ANT +17, which means only one rank up, not two. I'm not sure what the local trader's guild is.. I only recall joining one somewhere in Teladi space (and its the only one with "Free Traders' Association Membership"). If you're talking about the subscription, then I have none of them (too pricey).
As for boarding... I didn't have to leave the area for the marine to actually board... but I ended up in a crippled ship (weapons were instantly destroyed).
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
@Goobers
Not entirely sure about Rank up, but yeah I think it was around +12 to +15 standing with the Antigone faction in my current play.
Looks like there are differences as well in how quick you get the rank up with a faction and the conditions i.e. via cleaning sectors of enemies (at +8 to +10) or by trading only (at +12 to +15). Need to check that part with a new Gamestart tho.
In regards to using marines to board abandoned ships - yeah I’m to lazy to do it myself with the suit -, I had no issues so far with the described boarding settings. Guns and shields of the boarded vessels where fine and working unless you told the Team or their transport ship to attack the target.

Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
you don't really have to scan it hitting it with your repair laser is enough.
Re: Abandoned/Derelict ships and locations
Really now, did they change that? I spent 2 hours trying to claim an M ship and that was the only solution.RainerPrem wrote: ↑Thu, 13. Dec 18, 11:46Just a note: You don't need a marine for M ships. You scan it, you don your space suit, find a data leak and fix it. Then you can enter. No damage.
