This is madness.. poor logical station overview.

I clearly expect some fps drop - but I hope it will do better since this time I used buildings for walls and avoided wire structures.
There's a bit of room for improvement, i.e. some parts i'll probably be able to strip later without affecting function and looks.
but first need to see it completed... I'll make a video when done, but I'm afraid that will take 2-3 days as i can't use seta right now.

Ps: no technical issue with SETA, but there's a war in HAT and Ianamus Zura. Xenon already semi-blew up the Teladi HQ there, wonder if they'll ever manage to repair/rebuild it ;)

My old 'monster' station with 2 other small installations nearby does drop my fps to 12 though.
I'll have to strip it down and rebuild it - once its financed that wharf ;) Main visual issue being how the items fade with distance... the old stations was built with a Paranid structure wireframe and tons of factories strung to it. Was hoping it to end like a busy city, but seems X4 doesn't handle that as I had expected. Rather than reduce object detail on distance it fades content, so even stations with tons of parts don't make for massive looks, but rather seem like loose joints from a distance. https://i.imgur.com/1AHVpWa.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/82g51Fk.jpg. Honestly had me slightly disappointed. Gotta figure a new station plan idea instead :)

May I just suggest that you aggregate all productions of one type to a single rectangle in the logical overview? That would make everything more transparent.

Thats the long term plan, yes. This is the only good solution i see for this problem.

How about a hierachical view with connections defining list order in a breadth first manner?

Alternatively, allow the player to group the modules arbitrarily as sub-plans which can be saved and loaded as well as be used to condense the logical overview. I don't know about anyone else but I tend to follow standard sub-patterns when creating most of my stations.

Illustrative Example:-

Code: Select all

 + Station Plan
 | + Module Sequence 1
 | | + Module A
 | | + Module Sequence 2
 | | | + Module B
 | | | + Module C
 | | * Module Sequence 2
 | | * Module Sequence 2
 | | + Module D
 | | * Module Sequence 2
 | * Module Sequence 2
 | * Module Sequence 1
 | + Module E
Or something like that.

[EDIT]Correction, that is planning view I am referring to - not logical view. :P

WRT logical view - the ability to collapse and expand production modules of the same type would be nice.[/EDIT]

I think the one-box would be ok (with the average production % of all modules of that type)

Honestly, there's no value in the information per-module, since in the end you can't control individual module's production anyway (and it would be pointless too).
What matters is only the total amount of resources needed per hour and the output, hence bundling it would actually make things more simple and the view more helpful.

Just see the plan in my OP - it is not even completed, and not just 1 minute, several minutes at a time - could be mistaken for a complete lock up but leave it long enough and it does seem to recover eventually.

Hi, I just wanted to know where is the OP you are talking about ? I don't seem to be able to find it :? :o it will be greatly appreciated :D

The NoNameYetStation
Still being built about 6 hours game time using SETA very often, constructor has 90 building drones and its painstakingly slow

Just a quick update, my EBI Space Station One is starting to shape up a bit, ALL ship equipment dock support plus S/M Fabrication. Frame rates are pretty bad in sector BUT since 2.0 there seems to be far less of an issue with game freezes during builds and the planning screen is working better.

Will update with new screenies and plans either tomorrow night or over the weekend but a summary of the changes are:-
  • Increase of max population to 32k with an upgrade to 40k possible with the addition of more habbitats
  • Added 3 x XL Maintenance Docks
  • Added 3 x L Maintenance Docks
  • Added 3 x S/M Maintenance Docks
  • Added 3 x S/M Fabrication Docks
Trying to build up funds for my first XL Ship plan (c. 112M required) in order to make the XL maintenance docks fully functional. Then starting the burn to c. 500M credits for the L/XL dock plans.

Currently have full S/M ship production capability at both EBI Station One and my HQ. Will also post my plans (and some screenies) for my HQ, nominal baseline Outpost, and the small scale Defence Station that I refer to as an Overseer.

Antimatter Converter, not fully build yet:

Gate defense system - not a production facility, but still interesting :) :

Very nice! Love your gate bouncer/guard/portal design.

How did you get your defence platforms oriented like you have though? IME we are only able to rotate them around the elliptic relative vertical axis.

@All: Sorry for the delay in my station plan updates, EBI Space Station One is notionally complete now though (Full set of S/M/L/XL maintenance & fabrication bays now). Got a few pics and saved plans ready to sort through and will try to make the time to update the shared data over the next couple of days.

Thank you :)

About orientation - Horizontal is Argon, vertical Paranid. Is this what you mean?

Btw great idea to start this post, it's nice how different sations everyone built. Thank you all for inspiration.

Sorry for my english :)

Thanks for the clarification, gives me good reason to invest in the other defence platforms - did not realise this difference was present. :D

Thanks for your contributions, it is indeed nice to see how different people approach the game.

I may start a few tunnels of hate for the Xenon based on some of your ideas.
