I don't know if this has been discovered before, I've not come across anything mentioning this, but station builders grind crew skills like there's no tomorrow. I know renting a builder is super cheap, but with this discovery, it may be worth while investing in a builder of your own.

So here's the skinny... They hold a crew of 200+ and in less than 24 hours, fresh off the shelf crew members are all damn near specialist ranked, just working on my own plots. I'm currently at 9/219 specialists with only 6 crew members not quite 3 stars yet.

Just one thing to be aware of, after the first build job I gave my builder, for some reason all but one of the building drones disappeared. make sure you have a full drone complement before you assign a building job or you're gonna be super pissed waiting on 1 building drone to complete your build =p This hasn't happened to me again, I hope it was just a freak accident or something but I am always checking the drone load out prior to starting a job now.

My plan is to use my builder as a crew training ship and swap out engineers on my big pew pew ships to keep them well stacked.

Yeah they seem to level up their engineering pretty fast.

Player builders with NO DRONES are at maximum building speed. If you stuck then you kill the drones or the builder and buy another WITHOUT drones.

You have to wait until a new cycle starts to take effect.
X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!
I think Egosoft has already worked out our doom, because Xenon AI will reach the stars! :D

One could also cancel all but 1 of the future (not in construction) module changes so at most one must wait an hour or so before the builder is free.

X4 really needs the ability to fire builders mid construction.

no way. The madness of not able to stop assigment or simply transfer the required drones from any ship...

Buy drones as cargo or use them as they are in rebirth

That's mad and shouldn't work; but it does work in 2.6, and gets round a builder time-dilation bug that seems new in 2.6. I thank you.

Fortunately I was using my own builders, so I could cancel their orders and use new builders without build drones.

I think ships should be able to produce their own drones from components they have stored. It would add new life for drone carriers & possibly solve this problem if you could transfer wares to the builder ships mid-build.

<3.00 -> Own an Auxiliary Ship without any crew. Modify the ship you want crew removed from at the axillary ship and remove the desired crew. Modify the ship you want crew added to at the axillary ship and add the desired crew. The crew will move from the source ship to the axillary ship and after that modification is done one can move it from the axillary ship to the destination ship.

3.00 and later -> There is a dedicated feature to bulk transfer crew between ships. Transfer pods will even be launched if required such as between L ships.
