Free Families start "Split Head"...

Like...I finished that initial "kill the enemy commander" mission and at the end you get his head worth 1 BILLION Credits....what the heck do I do with this thing? I don't think I should be trying to sell it on a market.

Lol I just noticed.

I guess you need to show it somebody, I don't know.

Nothing sofar. I have 16 rep currently with the Free Families, went and satellited all their stations but nothing yet. Boron is rescued and I cleared a bunch research already. I guess I'll check back at rep 20.

The encyclopedia entry says that it brings shame to his family that I own the head but there is no sector with his family name, where I could rub this in. Maybe look around in enemy territory? But I've been to every sector in the expansion already, except 1 that seems to be locked behind some criteria. :doh:

There is that Judgement Hall thingy but again destroying their fleet doesn't make me feel welcome there. I would need to grind rep (currently -19 barely enough so I'm not shot on sight) just to land there which seem counterintuitive? :gruebel:


I had to make peace anyway (from -27 rep to -19) with ZYA as the Free Families pretty much signed a peace 30 minutes into the game and not fighting the Patriarchy since. This means ZYA has fleets all over their space that gives me headaches. :gruebel:

So your mission in the start is to blow up a fleet on the enemy side but then your clan wont defend you cause they stop being at war. Bit broken there. The completion of that mission should at least trigger a longer countdown on peace or reignite the war. :doh:

Update:

Well it is not rep 20, since I just got it with the Free Families and nothing out of the ordinary happened.

No invites to factions although the rep mentions it. Just generic promotion text I guess. No guild missions like the HAT one. No war missions like the Paranid and Argon ones in vanilla were.


I also flown around ZYA space, made peace with them (lol? makes no sense), spoke to their representative, landed at the Hall of Judgement, looked around, nothing.

Today's hotfix lowered the head's price to 10 mil, so it likely has a purpose. Plus there are a bunch of achievements connected to the Split civil war.

I guess I need to finish all researches? But then there is a 10-20 hour difference between getting the head and the next mission. The last level of teleport tech needs quite a lot of cargo space and a lot of micromanagement. Do the diplomatic missions need that even? If so it doesn't make much sense.

I guess I could farm rep with the Fallen Families until they send an invite if they even do that.... That again seems like an uphill battle as their missions are few and far between.

Whatever it is it's too arbitrary. You'd imagine something happens if you kill a whole fleet. Needs dev adjusting.

Instead of farming rep you might want to take a look at the HAT Plot....it will be.....relevant for the DLC once you have your PHQ/research lab setup.

That's all I'm saying for now.

Thanks for the info. I would have ran around for another week like a headless chicken if you didn't mention this.

I just find it weird that you have to go waaaay of road for this. It might makes sense in the end but I would have never thought I need HAT missions to progress the Split ones.

Maybe the female Split could have said something like, "Oh yeah talk to them Argon pirate dudes for help!"

in my game, after about ten hours, while following the HQ plot, one xenon I and 2 k decided to exterminate the target split fleet. I found myself a split head in the inventory, it was really sad

You didn't miss a lot. The Rattlesnake is fully equipped with Beams so it tickles anything larger than a fighter.

I seriously just went 1 zone past the starting one made a random dragon bail than took on the fleet. First I lured away the escorts then just solod the poorly equiped destroyer, makes you think who did they defeat... The escorts also mainly had plasma not really designed to hit anything nimble...

Devs should change the loadout to flack+missiles for Medium turrets and Pulse for Large turrets on the Destroyer at least.

Same thing happened to me, and because just got a head and no follow up mission, thought it was bugged.
So started a new campaign. When I put my hands on a Dragon started to baiting the support fleet. (they all die nobody quits) And then a ZYA police dragon was passing while in battle so took that one. With 2 Dragons killed the rattlesnake (after outfitting/repair the second) and nothing else happened. Got the head, mission ended unceremoniously and do not know what to do next.
I am already well into preparation for level 4 teleportation atm but lost what to do next. :gruebel:
