[x2] prevent game from pausing while alt+tab, run in background

Post by bogate » Tue, 31. Mar 20, 10:41

is there any way to keep the game running in the background? I have not found any such option for x2 and would like to run the game with seta while doing other things

The consensus of this old thread is no and as far as I can see there is nothing standing out in the updates (last one December 2007) to say it was introduced since.

Even with X3TC (and hence X3AP too) that facility was added in a later X3 update in June 2009 and not at release.

What is the goal that you want to achieve by letting the game run unattended?

thanks a lot for the responses. I have been building a lot of factories all over the place to close gaps in the economy and just wanted to let the game run forward to see if the stations actually stocked up on stuff and the economy improves. i wanted to watch some netflix or something like that while seta handles things but i guess i'll do stuff like capping or fighting xenon/khaak to kill time

Why not SETA overnight while you sleep? Made my first billion doing that.

It's one of the weaknesses in X2, you can't really tell how the economy is going. It would be nice if there was a script that told you the current supply and demand for each resource, so that you then know what to build (and ideally where too). Or perhaps it could just tell you the locations of stations in the game that have low resources (or none at all). Perhaps there is a script somewhere that does this?

Finishing 4 or 5 Xenon invasion missions is more fun though, and it can also make you a billion credits ;-)

The X2 economy is relatively static, because NPC Factories stay where they are (unless killed) unlike X3, where GoD spawns/despawns Factories as "Economic Events". Furthermore, each NPC factory has ships buying resources for it. That should make flow of wares more steady (than in X3).

Sector Planner by LordSuch viewtopic.php?t=44238 was able to show the theoretical holes in the economy. No idea, whether the executable can still be found.

It should be possible to iterate over all stations (and ships) and list actual amount of wares with a script, but that is a S&M topic.

Surprisingly, it can, and I can confirm that it still works on Windows 10!

You'll need a very old version of the .NET framework:

and then you can get the sector planner from the direct link provided by exogenesis:
