also a matriarchy so a swift trade in feminine products expected.

first pirate clan is a good idea though,

I seem fleets of irrate traders sitting out side a pirate base waiting for them hehehe.

"There's one, kill it....boom!"

Turkey shoot :)

Of course pirates will lead to a need for escorts, another feature i hope is included in the game. EG pay a player to be a escort and pay him when he and his convoy arrive at the destination togather.

The pirate and anti pirate side of the game has so much scope its unbelievable and worthy of its own thread i think :)

yup..said ity a long long time ago...

XOU would be a waste of time without one pirate clan and sector alone.

its defences would have to equal the most powerful clan but the way it would run would mean truly massive membership,as we are all scurvy swine at heart or why would we play games about theft and slaughter.

of course theres always a danger that EVERYONE would want to be a pirate.
which leads to dualitys, mild mannered sweet shop owner by day and Shag McNasty the blood curldlingist swashbuckler ever to sweep a sector for naked maidens and gold pressed latinium at the weekends.

but the sheer off shoots from having a dedicated pirate clan in XOU would eventually take over whatever gameplay was intended.

we wouldnt get offline for gods sake.......
eventually someone would perfect virtual hardware and we would get catheters fitted......

then we could all link to a central hub for speed and ease of medical facilitys...
could call the hub....Matrix?

I think that most of us are pirates without any knowledge about their behavior and its meaning. Everybody is attacking pirates in X-tension as well just for being a pirate. Nobody is asking why somebody a pirate is or what kind of law made them to that. Like i already said, we are a group of people with tha same ( or most similar ) interests, who just want to feel free in X, to do whatever we want. In an erly Interview Bernd Lehahn said, that the profession, just being a pirate will be supported in X2 and that kind of profession will also be very interesting for gamers. In my time as pirate i saw many people with a lawful opinion and a extremly primitive behaviour. I think that real lawfull good charakters should give everybody a chance, before attacking him.

I dont think so. In most of the online games chaos rules. You should also think about the NPC´s. i think that they will take care about the balance in the game. That means - Many pirates - many police NPC´s or otherwise.

But i would say its too early to think about such things now.

Pirate Scum !

The single premiss of honour amongst theives leads me to the conclusion that most of yer little clan will be easy pickings, the fact that u're using the numbers game leads me to believe that u have some weak links.

Just remember that in X:OU there will be law and order and to quote one of the UK's leading commic strip characters 'I am the Law'.

make sure you have wingmen when chasing that lone pirate into that nebula.
as theres probably a pirate capital ship waiting there for unwary bounty hunters.
when the pirate guild/clan gets huge they will start taking over sectors, unless of course theres a fearless stick jockey waiting to play hero

the pirate scope to XOU will be phenomenal...doo doo dee doo doo

Well I hope there will be scope for pirating in XOU. Having real people trying to make an easy living off the vulnerable, does add an extra element of excitement to your trade jouneys through space that no AI I've yet met can equal!

I just hope pirating can be made to work beter than it does in Jumpgate, some pirates in that game are just plain mean people that love to spoil your day! but! there are many that just enjoy the risk of being a pirate and play in a fair but interesting way.

While playing Jumpgate I met many pirates, and was robbed and even killed on many occaisions, most of the time tho, I would still make a decent profit on my trade runs, I got too about 9th richest player in the Jumpgate Universe for some time, ( I was pretty usless at PvP in that game, I lacked practice, skill, and desire to be better at it).

I wil be (most likely) a trade empire builder and explorer in XOU, but so long as the pirates I meet aren't too greedy, or just trying to get kill stats from easy targets, I will welcome the added excitement they provide, but for those pirates! that want more or are simply after kill stats, well they aren't pirates are they? and they can go dive into the nearest sun along with any other griefers.

Do I run, do I pay, do I fight, hehe it depends what mood you catch me in, and the way you treat or have in the past, treated me!

/me salutes The Rock

How u been Rocky ;) me and  missed ya.

As Moss has pointed out Pirate clans and other scavengers should add that extra element to X:OU however I do feel that stuff like this is begining to get a little too close to real life. Lets all remember that this is a game and that we're all here to have a good time.

I agree... I'm not a very good pilot, myself, but an online game has to have at least some element of danger coming from your human counterparts... As long as it doesn't degenerate into a PK feast, a career as a pirate, or even a pirate clan, would be really cool!

That would work!! hehe... though in my case( with my eyesight being a bit poor) I have to hope they are using a lurking device. (according to AJ, in another post, in another thread, use of this device gives you elephantitis of the of the gonads). It's the only way I won't miss. :P

I think we should avoid the Split Boogie Woogie (read AJ's post further up). I don't think being dressed as a Vestal Virgin, whilst standing knee-deep in Split Boogie Woogie would do much for the reputation and dignity of the clan... hehe
