X3AP: Plasma Beam Cannons?

The weapon description for lasertowers mentions that the plasmabeams can be mounted on spaceships as well now - but I haven't managed to find a single facility that either sells them, or a factory that can manufactures them. Can someone explain the discrepancy?

There's a Phased Array Laser Cannon, which is kinda like sticking a Lasertower on your ship. (Check the Encyclopedia for Split Panther, as an example. It's rated to equip them)

I found 2 of them just floating out there in space during TC

They were in one of the Kha'ak sectors you visited during the plot

I haven't found them in AP yet They're freakin awesome for capping M2's because they outrange everything and have fairly low damage output.

So to answer your question, they're probably obtainable, but super rare and not something you'd find a factory producing since they're considered experimental (like cloaking fields)

There are a few laser towers at the start in some military outposts but then they run out of stock pretty quick due to GOD killing the stations, best bet is to build your own factory then use a freight drone to get the PBC off the laser tower and on to your ship.

From memory the compatible ships are:

Argon Cerberus
Argon Astreaus
Pirate Carrack
Argon Mammoth
Yaki Ryu.

The Carrack is the best ship for them because all of them can fire forward.

How do I do that, though? When I send a drone to pick up freight from a lasertower {mine, just to be clear}, I just get a rejected command.

Easiest thing is to load the lasertower on your ship, then eject the lasertower into space. Then, before the counter reaches zero (there's a 10 minute wait before the lasertower activates), either shoot it and hope the plasma beam cannon remains floating in space, or use the cargo drone exploit.

That's the first thing I tried, but all the drone does is approach it, then fly back to me empty.

i found out why the freight drone kept floating around when you tell the freight drone to pick up freight it will ask how many do you want to get if you see the slider( i know this made me confused till i noticed the slider) and press enter and there you go
the Plasma Beam Cannon is onboard.

There are no available factories to produce them... However, if one were to by chance run into the back of an RRF Frigate as you emerge from a gate in a ship with stronger shields, you could be pleasantly surprised by the crates it leaves in its wake.
In my current game I have equipped four Tigers by tail gating certain ships.
