Capping a Griffon Sentinel X3AP

I'm trying to track down a Griffon to board and thus far I've only found two, both of which are in Heretic's End and surrounded by huge Argon war fleets centred around a number of Boreas. I was wondering if anybody has ever seen any outside of war sectors or have succeeded in capping one in the war sectors without having to fight it out with such massive fleets?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

You do know that you can just buy one at some Federal Argon Shipyards in X3AP?

In AP Griffons only spawn during one of the war states in heretics end. They always have 1-2 direct escorts usually M7/M8. Best to lure it to the side and bide your time. Again as it spawns with the war states the time after the war messages can determine how many enemies join the battle. You can play the waiting game and keep checking until the battle ends in a tie with one still alive, missile bomb the escorts or wait for the rare times it spawns alone or flies through the HUB since sometimes war sector ships can get wrongly reassigned instead of being deleted.
