Increasing reputation

Post by thesuker » Sat, 26. Dec 20, 09:26

Hi, I'm pretty new to this game. I'm doing the Terran campaign and a guide I'm following says it's a good idea to do Operation Final Fury before continuing with the campaign. Unfortunately I don't have enough reputation with the Split to access that mission so I'm currently in a Split system trying to find pirates to kill, but I can't find any. How would I go about finding pirates to kill in Split systems? And is there any other easier way to increase reputation with them?

Are split hostile? If not then simply do missions for them.
If they are hostile, you might be lucky and find split mission givers on stations in sectors that neighbour split territory. Mission with split giver will increase split reputation.
Also, a multi-sector patrol in a bordering sector to split might possibly end up leading you to split territory -> lots of enemies spawning -> lots of reputation.
If you have good reputation with Boron (or dont care about Boron reputation), you can also shoot boron in split territory to make split happy...
Never tried this, but you could also try to agro pirate/xenon/khaak ships in another sector, then try to lure them into split territory.

You might also find pirates by uncovering smugglers. If you see a non-split trade ship in split territory, hail it on coms. If the guy who answers isnt the same race as the ship's origin , it might be a smuggler carrying illegal wares. However - they are rare. Plus to uncover their smuggler status, you need to scan them (which will cost reputation - i think with the owner race, if you illegaly scan ships and it turns out it isnt a pirate).

Use assassination missions in the Split sectors (you can accept such missions in the nearby sectors) to raise your reputation with Split.

Assassination has a client. Faction of client is not set by the station/sector, where you find them. You gain reputation with the client by mission success.
Assassination has a target (aka 'mark'). You will lose reputation with faction of mark by killing the mark (and escorts).
You will encounter the mark in some sector. The relationship (ally/neutral/war) between owner of sector and the mark will affect your reputation among owner of the sector.
Assassination is thus not a surefire way to win some love.

X2/X3R had it different. Owner of sector did not care. Your reputation with faction of the mark did actually improve by the kill.

According information about Ranks:
Fight Rank

Affects the ships spawned by the Opponent Balancing System (OBS) for fight missions and in UFJD sectors in combination with the number of hostile ships already in the sector. Each Ship class has a value of points given if killed; in general the bigger and tougher the ship killed, the more points towards this rank you get.

Race Ranks

... Race ranks go from -5 to +10 and is based on a point system dependent on trade, missions and kills. The higher the class of ship killed the larger the influence it has on Race Rank.
So, when you complete any assassination mission, you increase:
1. Fight Rank (and influence which completed missions and killed ships have on the Race Rank)
2. Race Rank (for one or few Races)
3. Amount of owned by you Credits (and ability to buy better (but more expensive) ships and equipment)

In any case it is win-win situation.

More, such mission can be completed very quickly, i.e.:
1. Jump to sector with target
2. Look for jump gate, where spawned ships are located.
3. Jump there and kill target
4. Jump out

Since in such missions spawned ships belong to Pirates, Xenons or Terrans, then you can't loose reputation with Split faction.

This is why I have recommended to complete assassination missions to increase Race Rank.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example of assassination mission, taken by pilot with Fight Rank Vindicator:
Mission Briefing:
My partner, Timanckotsat, was recently taken hostage and killed by Pirates cartel when we could not pay. Rudilis Gobanis Gradias IX is dangerous and well armed but must be stopped !

Kill:Rudilis Gobanis Gradias IX

Difficulty: Hard
Reward: 2,905,125 Cr

Time left: 12 minutes

There is never "Assassinate Xenon" mission. The spawned mark can be any regular faction, not just Pirate or Terran.
The only hint is the name of the mark.

About Xenon's absence I am agree.

Here is data about owners of the ships spawned in Assassination missions:
They are in all cases Pirate or Yaki ships (sometimes Terrans too, in Albion Prelude)

You know what is said about things you find in the "Internet".

Couple weeks ago I tried an assassination in X3AP. Terran client. Terran sector. Mark was on Colossus or Titan. Argon Prime was all red to me after that. They would not care about a Pirate that much, would they?

X3TC has Corporations. They offer missions. Some are assassinations. Guess what did happen to my Paranid reputation when Corp wanted an Oddy dead?

If you kill M1 or M2, your reputation among the victim faction drops to -1000 points (if it was positive before). That is barely rank -2, e.g. Split Shameless Creature.
