the Despicable Don, a man who lost a billion dollars as a businessman
a man who didn't pay any tax at all for years.. gives a huge tax cut to the very wealthy..
and then crows about how clever he is, because he knows how to avoid paying tax..

So Michael Desmond, who was pushed aggressively by Trump as his appointment as the IRS chief legal council, used to work on tax issues for Trump's businesses.

there is far too much "denial" going on, when it comes to the history of Donald Trump..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkT_2N6gEm8

Trump has ALWAYS been a shady and dubious character..
since long before he became president, Trump has had close dealings with the seamier side of society
being president has made it difficult (-if not impossible) for him to hide the facts from public scrutiny

- which begs the question, why was his Republican ticket accepted for nomination in the first place..??
- the Republican party has some serious explaining to do..

here's more evidence of the extreme lack of meaningful political ideas coming from the Republicans- if you needed any:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWLXtA8g5tw
- never thought I'd agree with Andrew Neil, but he does a very good job here..
- great to see him challenge Shapiro on his religious ethics - caught him completely off-guard, there.. :D
- Ben Shapiro shows just how baseless and idiotic his yada-yada political ideas are..

Randi Rhodes hits the button again:

AOC and Sanders join forces take up the struggle against usury in the US:

I'm being very lazy... someone lent me Crimes of Grindlew.... erm, Harry Potter fantastic Creatures part 2... so not doing much searching.

But I notice every time there's a twitter (not tweet, but murmur) in the media about Trump, China, various taxes etc - a fund of mine (not China) takes a few percentage points hit. It's basically gone no-where in 9 months. I'm annoyed.

Has Trump's protectionist pontifications given any benefit to the US? He's talked about blah blah, just wondering if it's just what people want to hear or having a positive impact?

Now it may be too early, but there should be some signs surely?

American mutual funds are performing quite terribly compared to last 12 years. Could be worse, I suppose.

I though this was quite insightful about how politically ineffective it seems to be to attempt to expose Mr Trump through ridicule / satire
Trump is not a secret racist. He is not a secret sexist. He is not a secret cheat and he is not a secret liar. He’s not even a secret idiot; there is no gap between the most eviscerating parody and the man himself. A reality this twisted not only resists satire, it cannibalizes it. There are no jokes to be had at Trump’s expense, because he can afford them all.

We're misinformed, but maybe we've also been desensitized. This prompts the question (it doesn't beg it!) how did we get here?

I answered this question before using this example: the current situation is like deceases that had became immune to antibiotic due to abusive usage. Criticism tend to be more effective when it's used with scrutiny and solid reasoning, but in the past 2 years it has become a trend, an addiction. It has reached a point where I think people turn it into a ritual that each day they have to find something bad about Trump and tell others about it. Well, it's not just about Trump but with about anything really, you spend too much time preaching to everyone that's the world is DOOOOOMMMMM! upon even the smallest infraction .... eventually people just gonna look at you and ask "why the world hasn't been doom yet?" :P

Plus, I think most people don't notice when they immerse in the echo chambers but ... for the most part, the criticism about Trump has been mostly just personal attack rather than criticism on policies. His tax return, his debt, his adultery, his business empire ...etc... they are all about Trump as a person rather than what he does as the POTUS. And you know what, it means most of the criticisms are only meaningful to the people who want to criticize him, hence the echo chamber. The few criticism that are actual policies related (which getting rare and rarer each days) are like I said, pretty much unfounded/prophesied doom day talk anyway. In fact, I see enough in the media to even call it wishful thinking. Some ... hell, A LOT of the current criticism are like "cutting your nose just to spite your face", Americans who want to see America fail just so they can feel vindicated about their opinion on Trump. At least that how they came across to me, and it's ... sad. :sceptic:

Then, the crux of the matter (at least for me) is this: even Trump is only half as bad as his distractors claim him to be ... then how EASY it is to be someone who are better than Trump? Yet, why is it so HARD to find such a person among the current crop politicians? What does that say about the situation we are in now? ;)

Exactly! It may not what we want, but it is what we deserved. I just hope that the people who throw around such accusations realize and include themselves in that responsibility instead of excluding themselves from it. If they are Americans of course. :)

@Mightysword I'm happy to admit that we've been at odds in this (long!) discussion, many times. But I am also happy for the fact that you are you, and have stayed your course - sometimes it's taken me a while to get my head around it, but I appreciate the fact that you've been here, to a) be you and b) give your opinion.

Most of the time I get you, when you're saying "but as much as it matters what >>you<< think, do you understand what >>they<< think, and why they think it"?

"subtext - and does it matter / can it matter / how does it matter / why does it matter"

Even though I sometimes boggle on the examples you provide, or the language you use (a lot of respect for somebody using a second language) I do, always, think about what you've said, how you've said, and why you've said it.

Thank you.

Well can't say i disagree with the you got what you deserved sentiment, though now you've not only got to solve the problems that got Trump elected in the first place AND fix the damage Trump has done. Not a great place to be in and taking collective responsability for what went wrong is sadly one of the US's poorest attributes.

Is there anything happening at all to break out of this spiral of beeing less able to compromise and egotistical thinking? As far as i can tell it's only gotten worse.

Aside from that:

Man that current abortion debate is anoying as hell.
It just comes of as so hypocritical. No you can't have an abortion! All life is sacred. No you can't take my gun, my right to bear arms and kill trespassers is sacred! Oh you can't afford healthcare for yourself or your baby that you wanted to abort in the first place? Well screw you if you don't make enough money to pay for your healthcare you can go die in the streets! Yeah JESUUUSSSS!

If we had confidence the President clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.
This is about a damning as carefully constructed legalese can get.

Mueller statement further clarifies three things that should be obvious already to anyone who has examined this in any depth at all.
1) That his report constitutes a referral of the matter to the only authority that can "try" the President, namely Congress, as well as a recommendation that they begin the process of doing so.
2) That AG Barr dramatically misrepresented his report.
3) A rebuttal to the fact that the media has focused primarily on what various people have said about his report rather than what the report itself actually says (although this is admittedly complicated by the reports partial redaction).
