New Forum Layout

Post by ATTACK_HAMSTER » Thu, 27. Sep 18, 13:45

I'm not usually one who likes change (who does) but i have to say the new layout is clean and very easy on the eye. Well played Egosoft, now get that game ready :P

I dunno, I kind of miss the forum setup I used to use (forget its name, it was the one with the blue background)--it's either 1980s amber screen monitor or white background now. Guess I'll get used to it eventually.

I'm hoping the green background one will make a comeback too.

I posted I quite like the new forum, then my message went to the ether but never made it to the board.

So trying again, it's cleaner than the long in the tooth phpBB forum, but loses a bit more of the originals charm (by original I mean the one from yee oldie days long before vast majority of current members frequented these places), but charm doesn't cut it sometimes, functionality is more important.

Maybe we could have the classic skin for old timers?

And classic skin for the time before the last forum, that I only have heard of in legends

Maybe we can get a 56k option (a forum without similies and graphical stuff), so that it loads quick enough on slow internet connections, too, a "do you remember the really old times" forum consisting of just one forum everything is thrown into, and "a pen and paper" option for those of us who do not like the internet.

I realise I use a slightly unusual resolution, but the responsive scaling on the "egosoft" theme seems to be a little confused:

Any chance that could be fixed?

If you're referring to the fact that the user details move away from the right side of the page, that's intentional. Displaying the details on the right doesn't work as well on a mobile device, or indeed any device with a narrow screen.

So far I like it, it's going to take some time to get used to in order to be "comfy", but that happens with any change (i.e. page count to right, instead of on left under topic title in forum view :P )
I hope the Xmas snow will still work btw... else i'll rage quit. Or something. Or write my own that does it for me everywhere. Whatever. Pfft.

Nicely done to all involved :)

I notice that at the top the breadcrumb works as expected (home < board index < English forums < off topic english), whereas at the bottom it doesn't (it does have a "Return to Off Topic", but the breadcrumb below is just Home < Board index. No idea if that's normal on phpbb forum stuff. Also - contact - pm icon either not "there" or isn't visible on the egosoft layout? Also "Return to xxxx" has a hover of blue, and it'd be cool if names were a bit bigger as they're currently smaller than the post text, and link text (see my sig) hover is black... making the link "disappear" (but more correctly, out of theme with the light colour used for every other link!)

I use the 'SE Square Left' style on my own phpbb3 forum. That has a light blue background and the avatars are on the left which I prefer over the default phpbb3 Prosilver style.

Noticed a big problem (for me at least) on the mobile.
The new system puts both the prefix and suffix of the bbs code in the text well AT ONCE with the cursor in the middle. THIS IS BAD. VERY BAD.

[prefix][suffix]

Because to paste in between the two commands the moble users have to press and hold until the cut and paste menu appears, we don't have a right click you know. So we have to add enough spaces between the two to free up enough room do press without it selecting one or two of the bracket sets. The old way of placing the code prefix at the first press of the command button and the suffix on the second press worked better. Instead of adding then deleting spaces just to paste something between them.

You can write the text then slect it and hit the bbcode you want, it will "wrap" around the selected text.

MFG
