Pray for rain

Post by Scarecrow » Sat, 15. Aug 20, 00:39

We are dealing with wildfires here in western Colorado. The smoke is so thick my O2 generator isn't even helping much.

The Grizzly Creek fire is 25 miles east of here and thePine Gulch is about 50 miles off to the west.

With everything else going on, there hasn't been much in the news about wildfires this summer. Stay alert and if necessary, leave before you have to. These things can change in no time.

Hi Scarecrow :)

Wow!...scary pictures. We've been having some 'heatwaves' last week in middle England. Had a huge downpour though on Thursday whilst we were driving home from Cambridge on the A14. At one point the windscreen wipers just couldn't cope, we had to slow down to 30 mph just to be able to see 20 yards ahead. Loud thunder & Lightning most of the way too :o
The heat over the last few days must've got to me eventually, felt quite ill Friday, probably a slight touch of heatstroke.

Oldman :)

Send us a few buckets of that rain!

We are looking at 98 - 100f for most of next week. With wind.
Since I posted last, there has been a fourth fire about half way to Denver up in some pretty thick pine forest.

It's like trying to breathe soup around here.

Doesn't look like it gonna improve anytime soon. :(

@Scarcrow, I assume there is a reason you have a o2 generator so I concur with other posters here, are you planning to move? Unless it already started getting better, history showed it's not going to get better soon. It's better to move in your own car than in an ambulance. Stay safe out there.

Wish we have a modern James O’Neill.

Do you like Colorado's weather?

Image

I'm sitting in my room sweating at 32celcius right now, knowing when I go to bed in 6h, I'll need a thick blanket tonight.

This actually gonna be a full blow snow storm for 2 days, so hopefully it'll put out or at least suppress the current fire.

Yeah... I love the weather here. Especially the fall when the elk hunt happens.
I used to be more fond of the winter than I am now, but I skiied all the time then.

They are calling for up to 2 ft. in some places. It will probably, hopefully, lay these fires down and be close to getting them completely out.

I always like the Winter more than Summer too. Kinda surreal though, to go straight from Critical Fire alert into a snow storm alert.

I know it starts early in the mountain but this probably the first time the metro area get a snow this big this early. Usually I wouldn't see one till around Halloween.

How is the situation right now? I'm not from the US but to hear about it was depressing... Forest fires leave so much destruction.

Eh it helped contained it for a bit a while back, but it's in full blow again. In fact for a brief moment Denver had the worst air quality in the world with an AQI of 229. (To put it in perspective, the worst day of Beijing is only 155). Like I said it was just a brief moment, like it was 66 at 5pm previous Sat and got bump to 229 just 2 hour later, then disperse. Still, it tells you how bad it is. The largest one in Pine Gulch is 100% contained, but the Cameron Peak and William Fork are barely contained.

And I don't think Colorado is only one burning, in fact, while it is the worst for us locally, I don't think our fire even compared to the one going on both East and West coast.

Yeah.....we still have a few hot fires going. the local ones (Pine Gulch and Grizzly Creek) are pretty much out.

Still quite a bit of smoke out there but on the Western Slope the smoke is coming in from the West coast fires.

....and our elk hunting seasons are starting. All sorts of hunters beginning to filter in. More people out there and an awful lot of them aren't all that experienced.

I don't remember hearing about big fires in Colorado, had it happened before?

That would be because the post is 6 months old. The poster before you dredged it up. ;)

Still praying for rain here in Colorado ... or more like praying for Snow. I don't like how little Snow we're getting in the last 2 months, even when the East cost was hit with the storm.

No fire, but in Colorado if we don't have enough snow it spells trouble for our water supply.

Meanwhile over on this side of the pond we're up to our necks in snow and ice. Some reports are saying it's the coldest winter since
1955.

BRRRR.
