X3TC ALWAYS freezes when around Xenon/Terran(new) capitals, *proven vanilla problem*

Post by darqen27 » Sat, 16. Aug 14, 19:55

Anytime I get into a battle lately(In my Panther), The whole game just locks up. Have to CAD out and task manager it. I am running CODEA, Bailing, Salvage command suite, ADS(Not using both carrier mods at the same time on my carrier, just codea), explorer command extension, ECS and some other mandatory mods for the main mods
I have the graphics settings at max on 1920x1080x32

EDIT: I also forgot to mention MARS, i've noticed the game only crashes when mars activates near a capital ship
EDIT2: From repeated attempts to figure out what is causing the crash, I have learned basically nothing, the game seems to crash randomly. I am going to remove MARS and see if it fixes it. Sometimes it seems like mars goblins are causing the crash(Yet sometimes I use goblins like crazy and nothing happens)
Also I have removed CODEA

Well normally I would say that if you cannot replicate the issue on a vanilla game installation then we cannot help you further. It could well be a mod clash issue.

However, your RealTek sound driver is well out of date and if your swapfile is on your C: drive then there is too little room for it and it may be badly fragmented anyway if that is not an SSD. I have also seen reports of issues where that Zune codec seems to be a common factor.

What might help is if you post the text bit of error reports (if any, and just one if all the same) in Event Viewer that are directly related to the X3 crashes/freezes.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply, ;)

In a sense, it IS reproducable, any battle with capital ships locks up the game, when I am using smaller fighters to fight, no lockup

My swap file is custom, split across 2 HDD's C drive is an SSD, and I'll go update my sound driver. On a side note, I've found that using windowed mode eliminates the crashes in battle. so im curious whats different when the game is windowed

Aparently I was just lucky for a few battles, but the game freezes are back and I've updated my sound drivers and video drivers and its still freezing even windowed.

I assume there were no related Apphang reports in Event Viewer? Try running the game/Steam exe in XP SP3 compatibility mode and see if that helps at all. Other than that I'm afraid we cannot really help much more because of all your mods either causing or concealing the source of the real issue.

Good luck.

The "issue" is part of the original game, i tested it and it freezes with vanilla or modded.

When you say "vanilla or modded", did you actually start a new game without mods, or simply removed the mods/scripts and used the same savegames. If the latter, then that's not useful since the scripts and mods are often still present within the saves. To be sure, you have to make a new start in a fresh, untainted install.

The issue definitely is not in the original game. It's either the saves or your computer. TC has been very stable for quite a while now.

okay, I am basically running VANILLA, I have Codea installed, bounce1.7, military transport/basic salary and MARS. thats IT, nothing else

I have NO mods that change the game in ANY WAY. everything is vanilla except for a turret script, a carrier script and bounce!

So everything is *not* vanilla - and so we cannot really know what is doing what to what. What we do know is that vanilla X3AP is quite stable on thousands of player systems. I also see from your S&M posts that your CODEA mod installation is not behaving as it should either.

You might well be right and the issue may be nothing to do with your mods and be due to your system or set-up. However, until you do a clean vanilla game install (see end of this) and start a fresh game and still have the issue, then you cannot upload gamesaves for independent investigation nor will the other experienced players and techies on the forum be likely to sink a lot of time into helping.

BTW you still haven't responded to two prompts about related reports in Event Viewer and one about compatibility mode.

If you think the VC++ Library is the issue, and if yours is the Steam version of TC, you should be able to reinstall the current VC++ Redist from Steam - otherwise you can try to find your appropriate download online such as here - but beware of sponsored 'repair' software scams.

Of course it may be the conditioning of the code or mod that is calling the dll that is the issue, rather than the dll itself. (That seemed to be the case with the Banner Saga game series that was throwing up errors similar to yours with the fmodex.dll_unloaded tag. This behaviour is not evident with vanilla X3 gamecode though.)

I have read throughsome other forums of other games that this dll file error is usually associated with sound issues, I have an asus mb, high end with onboard realtek, I've updated the drivers, so Im not sure what else to do, I updated the vc++ files after uninstalling the 15 copies that were installed

You can try disabling your sound device in Device Manager and then play the game without sound using just subtitles to see if it still freezes. At least that will eliminate the sound device and driver as the problem. Personally I think the issue is deeper than that.

Disabling sound device did nothing, I wonder if it could be a codec problem like these other Freeze with sound loop threads

You don't have the usual suspect codecs and with the sound driver disabled, you shouldn't be calling any unwanted sound codecs either.

I think you are going to have to bite the bullet and try a clean vanilla install and a fresh game start (after backing up your current saves). If that plays OK, then reintroduce your mods one at a time and see at each step if there are issues. Just because some systems can run a specific mix of mods OK, it does not mean that every system can.

If you get back to the same mix of mods playing OK on your new start, then try your old saves. If those have problems then the issue is embedded in the old saves.

Yeah, I've been dreading that, if in fact it is my old saves. I'll be happy to see the game work better, but I doubt I'll be picking it up again for a while.(I'm 200 real hours in on this save)

So consider trying without any mods that affect Xenon ships, weapons and weapon effects.

I started a new game for testing purposes, and as a terran defender vs xenon ships i have had zero freezes(Put a couple hours into it).

I also did the Goner plot(On original save), which has alot of combat in it, and I drove my capital ship fleet(Panther, Shrike, Centaur) thru Unknown Sector(Pirate hell) and fought 1(m2), 2(m1), 1(m7), and a couple m6's and crap loads of fighters. no freezes.

It really seems to only happen with xenon ships....

Only mod i have that would affect xenon ships in any way would be the NPC bailing addon..

Do you mean Xenon capitals only (since your Terran start did not react to massed Xenon fighters)? I think some Xenon capitals are spawned with unusual or Terran weapons like PSPs etc. Could it be their effects?
