Yes it is still an issue because the game still has wide-body M6 models (mostly from 3rd party designs) that were added into the game after the now-elderly core game files were developed and frozen. It isn't going to change, I would think.
DiD players tend to know and avoid manual undocking and instead use personal ship AI commands to undock safely in the known situations below when personally flying a wide-body M6:
1. Station docks with internal docking and closing dock outer doors.
2. Station docking arms where another wide-body ship type is (or soon will be) docked on the next arm to you.
3. A few known station type docks that have station structure close to some of the docking arms.
4. ANY docked situation where you worry that one of the above 3 *might* apply.
Of course to be 99% safe, you could just get into the habit of using AI ship undocking each and every time - or not dock in a wide-body M6 as a personal ship.
Sorry there is no better news to be had.
