Mayhem Video Series [complete] – Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
X4 Foundations introduces many new concepts and layers of gameplay to the X-formula.
Most notably dynamic wars and faction AI.
I am hopeful that X4 is becoming a gem, given some time. But i also feel that there are gamers out there who'd prefer a fleshed out experience right now. One that just works well and that already has enough content.
In the past weeks i started to produce a video series about Mayhem, a modification for X3:Albion Prelude.
I want to share this information right here because Mayhem has features that can be compared to some of X4's additions, like dynamic wars and sector takeover. It also brings some advanced management tools. Fleet construction and control have never been easier.
Eventually empire building and large scale fleet combat have always been my main interests in the X Series. X4 in it's current stage disappointed me in this regard. If you feel similar, Mayhem might be just what you've been looking for.
I'm not associated to the mod creator, just a huge fan who decided to make some videos for you, the community. Because i know that it can be hard to get into those big mods and they also just can't fix everything. Some limitations of the engine still persist, Joubarbe is no Wizard
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... r_marXo4RQ
Here you will find a compacted version of my latest Mayhem playthrough. It's meant to provide guidance for those of you, who don't want to commit dozens of hours into a savegame and then loose. With this series i try to lay the foundation for a solid empire, that gives you a high chance of winning the game right away.
After 9 years playing X games i don't look for the most efficient strategies any more. Only the most enjoyable ones, that work good enough for me and require the least amount of fiddling and menu surfing.
I still filled some spreadsheets for personal use while playing. But only to get some good rules of thumb that i can pass on to you. So even veterans might learn something new.
Joubarbe just rolled out version 2.9. I included the most important changes in a video's description if they concern it's content. If you see a * in the title, check what has changed.
Be sure to thank the Panda in Mayhems Egosoft forum thread!
EDIT:
It now features an overview for the fleet system and how to reinforce them in advance by setting up building queues for your shipyards. The empire is endgame-ready, which concludes the tutorial series.
Have fun!

Mayhem is great. I've played the heck out of it. I've moved on to X4, though, because it does things X3 with Mayhem will never be able to accomplish because of engine limitations. I wish Joubarbe would get over his anti-X4 bias and come over and do some modding work for X4, because X4 could really stand to benefit from more excellent modders such as he.

Blame the game. X4 modding community is even lower than X-rebirth. X4 didn't deliver (so far)Falcrack wrote: ↑Wed, 3. Jul 19, 17:00Mayhem is great. I've played the heck out of it. Re: Mayhem Video Series – Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
The title makes me expect an video about X4, not X3. Is this topic therefore wrongly placed?

i deliberately adressed this forum here as stated in my second paragraph. If you think this is inappropriate, feel free to move it. I think it isn't, because i drew comparison to X4.linolafett wrote: ↑Fri, 5. Jul 19, 11:32The title makes me expect an video about X4, not X3. Is this topic therefore wrongly placed?

Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
I added the "X3" tag to the thread title, i hope this is fine for you.

Of course. Your forum, your rules. But thank you! I will not bump this thread, or discuss Mayhem in great detail.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
It's not like that Hector, he just means that this particular area of the forum is for X4, but your post is about X3. So that was why he was wondering if it should be moved to the X3 forum or X universe forum.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
This same post has appeared in about 6 different forums across the internet. Mayhem is nice and all, but it is not X4.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
Its a nice mod though
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
Nice, thanks!
Really intriguing.. when do you plan on the advanced fleet demo?

I still have to record some shots for this and test Joubarbes latest patches for fleet commands. So, probably not before the weekend after next. Also depending on the weather.
But i have started production of two videos about shippart economy and will try to up them this week.

Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
OK, now this thread has indeed moved on to discussing an X3 mod/videos and be nothing to do with X4. Over to X3 S&M we go.
A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
The purpose of this thread was to show how X4 should look (in the opinion of the op).
It should belong to the X4 Suggestion Forum.

Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
No, i don't want to criticise or change X4. Both games are worth playing. I posted in X4's forum to let it's playerbase know that Mayhem is another fleshed out alternative until X4 mods with great empire building are ready.
@Alan Phipps: It's fine.

How bad the OCV is?
I had a litcube playthrough some time ago, and while the tools and the whole framework was really nice it did not leave me much time to just fool around and spend hours on stuff not related to prep for the next attack. Is it similar here?

Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
To be honest with you, you probably have even less time
But was the OCV in Litcube really that fast? I remember them needing days to even get out of the Omycron Channel. I always thought it would require them weeks, or maybe months of gametime to take over everything, because they only have one place to get resources from.
Mayhem is less sandboxy, because it requires you to start building your empire right away. In my opinion there is still plenty of downtime, but if LU was uncomfortably pressuring for your taste, Mayhem might not be the mod for you.
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
Iirc it was significantly faster, but it was probably more then a year ago, might be pacing changed since then.Hector0x wrote: ↑Fri, 12. Jul 19, 15:42But was the OCV in Litcube really that fast? I choked them at their entrance to commonwealth, and in a couple hours a new strong wave appeared every time as i recall. Had 4 SY with supoort plexes and i needed that production to feel safe.

I believe you can disable/modify the OCV in Mayhem. I've never bothered to mess with it because the OCV hasn't been a huge pain. (L)OWP's are very useful.
Que sais-je?
Re: Mayhem Video Series (X3)– Epic Empire Building, Dynamic Wars, New Fleet System
Yep, you can even change the threat level required to trigger them. There are many things that can be customized in Mayhem.captainyesterday555 wrote: ↑Fri, 12.
