play as a Pirate

So is that possible to play from the beginning as a pirate like before:

- capture the ships and sell em to shipyard?
- does they surrender their small vessels on being hit?
- or all is about capital ships invasions like?
- do we need to follow the story line or can pirate first without a plot?
- what does replaces such things like space-weed space-fuel like ;]

anything about pirate style game-play interested for discussion!
