You can if you enter the Steam key from the box into the Steam client and let it start downloading. You can't if you try and install from the DVD. I posted about this a couple of days ago.

It's likely that they didn't want people with the boxed version to begin rooting around the game files and such before release. Preloading on steam keeps the file in encrypted form until it's unlocked.Kadesch47 wrote:Okay i became a message to wait for the release until i can install it from my dvd - indeed its a bit illogical that i cant pre-install it from the dvd and at this point a complete preload is ufortunately to late for my internet :/
*wait*
Hehe yes okay you have a point but in my dreams the situation was the following: get a day holiday -> get the ce -> pre install it from the dvd AND pre patch 1,5 gig <- this patch would be an hour with my internet (Grüße aus dem Münsterland) and you know one hour less with x-rebirth is an lost hourOf course its logical, having most data on a disk kinday beats the need for a pre-load no? Think about it. Wink

Didnt think about that, maybe also an argument. It's likely that they didn't want people with the boxed version to begin rooting around the game files and such before release. Preloading on steam keeps the file in encrypted form until it's unlocked.
