I cant upgrade the Skunk's engines - probable mods issue

I go to a mechanic and upgrade shields etc, but when I try to upgrade engines I end up with NO engines... I pay the millions for the engines but nothing... it says i have no engines installed??

Almost all the others reporting this exact issue have had some sort of cheat or mod library installed that meant that the modded gamecode broke the vanilla process and expected some other code to handle engine installs or just didn't clear out old engines properly. Some other such issues were the result of using non-comprehensive gamesave edits.

Two examples out of many here and here.

If none of that really applies to you then have you verified your gamefile cache (if Steam)?
