That sounds... Pretty similar to a jumpgate!
Learn to use stickies. Look here for mods for X3TC and here for guides across everything since X2. If you haven't read the Forum Rules do so before we beat you with sticks. Above all have fun.
Well a lot of players want Multiplayer X.
If this "new" game is legal, let them go there and leave us in peace.
Wouldn't it be nice to go at least one month without...
"I have great idea. Why not make X a Multi-Player game ?"
And if you see any , just send them across to Celestus who I am sure will enjoy all the moans about how he could do better.

Seems to be free, just created an account with the 'Inscription'-button and I could 'play' right away. Not sure what impact that has on the copyright infringement though.enenra wrote:Why that does look pretty much exactly like the nebulas I've been working with for some years now...
In fact, considering they apparently also have EVE Online models in there (and probably stuff of a bunch of other franchises) there is little doubt that those are indeed the background from X3(TC). And contrary to apparently popular belief those are not simply pictures taken from some telescopes but handcrafted images. Even if they were pictures and "only" adjusted / overpainted that would not mean that they're not Egosoft's property.
Question is whether they're selling that game for money. I haven't found the page where you buy the game / join the game yet so I don't really know. Anyone found out more about it?

Well one thing is to get inspired by something, SF is full of that on all levels, it's basically unavoidable, but there is a difference in 'design inspired by' or just steal something directly - although difference sometimes feel dim.Mightysword wrote: For example, look at this Rodger Young ship (Yamato class) from starship trooper, do you think it looks awfully similar to a certain ship in X2?

Well ... there is a little difference between "inspired" and "copied". Copied doesn't necessary mean you load up an existing 3D model and modify it, any competent modeler can replica an existing model after taking a look at it. Case in point, most Star Trek mods are essentially copy, but for the most part modders have to re-create their model, but that doesn't mean they're somehow re-classified from copied to inspired.deca.death wrote:Well one thing is to get inspired by something, SF is full of that on all levels, it's basically unavoidable, but there is a difference in 'design inspired by' or just steal something directly - although difference sometimes feel dim.Mightysword wrote: For example, look at this Rodger Young ship (Yamato class) from starship trooper, do you think it looks awfully similar to a certain ship in X2?
The thing is ... the X2 Titan looks wayyyyyyyyyy to similar to the Yamato that it's more of a copy work then inspired work. The head, the bow, the engine, the bridge all look 90% identical with extra nut and bolt. In fact if you watch the ship in the movie it looks even more alike.

Wow, you're so wrong people! Do some homework first, before talking bull! If anything , it's egosoft who copied Yamato from ST. Starship Troopers was released in 1997 and its models and ship designs were done much earlier, X2 was released in 2003, waaaay after Yamato was well known to the world. Just stop this thread, because everything in this world is a derivative work anyway.
