And Trump supporters wearing white hoods was a thing, too...Masterbagger wrote:And I just remembered people protested Trump by marching while dressed in vagina suits.Mightysword wrote:I think a lot of people railing against him are unwittingly assisting Trump, by (probably not on purpose) showing others that they can not be taken seriously.
"People" do crazy stuff.
PS- I missed out seeing the vagina costumes, so I googled it. Disturbing... I do remember seeing a lot of pink hats on election day and wondering what those were all about. Turns out that they're related. I think I'll wear a gorilla suit for the next Presidential election and ride one of those little electric cars, maybe a dump-truck or something. I'll carry a sign that say's "Say No to Trees" and hand out bicycle pedals to everyone with an "I Voted" sticker... Why? Heck, I'd get my pic on the interwebz, at least...

I'm not saying people can't do crazy stuffs, I'm just saying don't be crazy and expect to be taken serious. I didn't even mean something like wearing a vagina costume. But if on one hand you want to bash Trump for his crazyness, immature blah blah blah, and on the other hand you see pretty much the same people citing youtube personality, satire talkshow, and comedians as legit new source ... or even better, wake up every morning and fantasizing about what Trump would do and go "OMG HE'S SO BAD" ... all in your head. Then well ...Morkonan wrote: "People" do crazy stuff.
Not saying there isn't legit reasons to gripe him about, but the point I'm making here is because his so call "distractors" are creating so much noise for shite and giggles that the actual message pretty much drown out in a sea of shite. Again, they damage their own cause without realizing it.
Funny thing, you rarely if ever heard the Trump supporters asking something like "I don't understand why people doesn't support him". Yet "I don't understand why people can support Trump" is a common question. Those asking that question just have to look at the mirror, they will find one of the answer right there. Like I said, just like how some people like me was able to predict Trump's win, despte not being his support. The answers is fairly easy to find ... as long as people are willingly to look at right place. Or at this point, I should say: if people are brave enough to look at the right place.
Btw, I wouldn't even call wearing a vagina suit as crazy, whatever the intended purpose is. I would just call it stupid. But then again, my different view and perception could be just down to cultural difference.

I've disagreed with you on many occasions in this thread, mightysword, but I think I agree with everything you said in the preceding post.
I was going to argue the toss about the value of comedy and satire, then I realised that were there, for instance, alt-right comedy and satire, I would think it a) stupid and b) unfunny. Bepo the frog stands out as an obvious example that fits for me. Anyway, I suspect those of the opposite political persuasion to me would think the same thing about the satirical shows and comedians I find illuminating.

That is a good point. From now on I will try to rely even heavier on more reliable news sources, even though I think the shadiest one I brought up so far was probably yahoo news.
However I see one small problem. If one is at the point were a site like the daily stormer/Breitbart (or the communist newsletter so this isn't to one sided) is seen as a reliable website, than one is also at a point where ones definition of a reliable newssource is vastly different from that of the majority. A person who adheres to sutch an extrem point of view will for example not see the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal or The Boston Globe as a reliable newssource. If one is now so far gone than I think it is hard/impossiable to engage them in meaningful dialogue.
"The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn't have the weight of gender expectations." - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
That's largely true. You can't have a substantive discussion/debate/argument with someone if you don't both share the same basic standards of judgement.clakclak wrote:...A person who adheres to sutch an extrem point of view will for example not see the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal or The Boston Globe as a reliable newssource. Imagine someone with a different belief or value system than "mainstream" or whatever current culture considers as "normal values" being confronted, day after day, with publications and news outlets that tell them in no uncertain terms that they are "wrong." The read the N.Y. Times and are told that cats are better than dogs. They read The Washington Post and, with their newfound sensitivity to such things, feel like they're being bombarded with uncomfortable and ever-present reminders in articles that the value system being thrust into their face values cats more than it values dogs. They've lived their whole life with dogs, know dogs, love dogs, yet all these "mainstream" news outlets keep pushing cats in their face.
It doesn't matter if all these publications have truly accurate information on other subjects. All that will be tainted by their overwhelming preference for cats. So, instead of being forced to put to the question their own value system, they retreat to more isolated news sources that cater to their love for dogs. The self-validation these "news sources" bring for their readers also lends itself towards validating, in the minds of their readers, the credibility of other claims, even in "news stories" that are largely fiction or false or horribly biased.
(Obviously, a hypothetical analysis, since everyone knows dogs are better than cats.)
On the subject of "Holy crap, nobody will ever believe this happened, but it's true, honest!"
Trump's lawyer says he paid $130,000 to porn star ahead of election
Of his own money. With absolutely no reimbursement whatsoever from Trump or any campaign funds. None. Just coughed up 130k for a porn actress and Trump's probable bang-session because he loves Trump so much and wants to protect him...
Riiiiiight.

I read that a few days back, no, I don't beleive he did it out of his own pocket, no-one does that.
But it all reads like so much circus to me now, I can't take any of it seriously any more.

If the headline tomorrow was "Trump puts his privates into a pencil-sharpener every morning so he can stay sharp" I don't think anyone would blink. The absurdity is just another bad storyline in a overly-hyped television drama. White House "Press Conferences" are just "gaslight" sessions. There's no news there, just endless..
"We're awesome and we're still as awesome as I told you we were yesterday, so we really don't think we need to answer any more questions that revolve around us not being awesome, since we already told you were so very, very, very, awesome and Trump is the awesomest, because we told you he was awesome and you can look that up by Googling "Awesome" rather than me having to repeat it, again. Awesomely."
The entire Administration appears to be focused on just one thing - Making the lie as real as it can be without actually, really, being real. :/
Don't worry, we non Americans also have absolutely absurd stories, they just don't get as mutch attention because we are less important than the USA.Morkonan wrote:Sad, isn't it? Yes we also have absurd stories but the big difference is they are just every so often, whereas with Trump it can be every few hours.clakclak wrote:Don't worry, we non Americans also have absolutely absurd stories, they just don't get as mutch attention because we are less important than the USA.Morkonan wrote:Sad, isn't it? To be honest I think Rodrigo Duterte and wannabe Saladin (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) have him beat in that category. As for my home country, there are regularly people who say things on a Trump level, but they are not (yet) in a position of power.felter wrote:Yes we also have absurd stories but the big difference is they are just every so often, whereas with Trump it can be every few hours.clakclak wrote:Don't worry, we non Americans also have absolutely absurd stories, they just don't get as mutch attention because we are less important than the USA.Morkonan wrote:Sad, isn't it? I said it before, I think she is being paid a lot to stay with Trump while he is president and I expect her to divorce him as soon as it is all over.RegisterMe wrote:Next up Melania files for divorce.

Where do I start? Met "The Donald" at Atlanta Casino in 80's came away asking how he ever made 2 cents because he seemed to have no sense at all. .
His Champaign Antics had me wondering how soon he'd drop out. Should have known that since runs for office take $$$$$$$ he could buy the whole enchilada. He did. Though I wasn't that trilled with Hillary either, based on the lesser of two evils? Makes me wonder if and when common sense will prevail. Then again if if ever does our dear government will probably mandate lobotomies. The Romans had a phrase for our present situation here in the US.

Boring, expected the whole room to look at him and yawned in the middle of people talking to him. In other other words except being older and a bit more cantankerous, nope he hasn't changed that much. Only now he expects the whole world to look at him.
Though look at the pictures of him in the 80's. His eyes were more hooded. I'm wondering how much that cost him. Went around all last summer looking like a raccoon. Because tans show scars?
That's Trump. I stood then and stand now unimpressed.

Posted again about what's Trump like...
Okay I met hip at Trump Casino in late 80's. My mother and and step father were "High Rollers". I was on leave from US Air Force. He sneered when told this so I kept my eye on him. As I said, I was unimpressed. So was parents, they didn't go back, other casinos were better and I clean up at blackjack. Liked NV casinos better.
I have someone I've met on many occasions and admire. He's a musician and played gigs in and around New York state in early 90's when I was stationed in Rome NY. In 1970-71 he got on the top 10 with his first and only album to go big. Got booted from from most airwaves when a song about then President Nixon got him followed by the FBI. The irony is it seems to apply more to Trump.
I know this isn't the music forum but this version shows the lyrics. Judge for yourself, but it pretty much sums it up.

As I said on the post on the music thread. I hope it opens eyes and ears!
