I'll be even happier if at least one variant has just a full turret compliment and no forward weapons, because I loved that distinction when it came to M7s.
Yes, the Split Panther (fully turreted M7) was also my favorite. Used it quite a lot.
+1

I love ballance of pocket destroyer x light carrier hybrid in relatively fast and flexible frame - If I'd have to pick one ship above corvette I'd go with Pather - there is no other alternative.

The Panther was a frigate, not a corvette.

Still a really good ship for a player more concerned with trading than fighting, let the turrets and fighter complement do the work while you sit back and watch on the monitors.

But i absolutely agree, I hope the new ships look like they were designed to be in space, not spiky, sticky out things.

Though I did like the X3 Teladi ships that looked like someone have just bolted bits together, like IKEA furniture where they'd lost the instructions.

Seconding the "anything that has a full set of turrets at the expense of forward guns" comment.

There's no vanilla corvettes like this (I think?), but Litcube's Universe had a few. They're great for people like me who don't care too heavily for the fighting aspect of X, but don't want to get minced by a random pirate patrol.

Agreed, that was a bit of a missed opportunity to distinguish "attack corvettes" (large and numerous forward guns for attacking big targets) from "escort corvettes" (lots of turrets for keeping fighters at arm's length).

Would be interesting to see what the take is going to be this time around - the Osprey kind of looks like it could fill both roles.
