Tell your spouse that this device comes with an automatic function that pauses apps and games at scheduled mealtimes, posts an early reminder of all family birthdays and anniversaries and will shut down the PC on scheduled visits by the In-Laws. Personally, I think this will only delay the grief though.
A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.

Or Foundations is a single player game and while playing she is free to gorge herself on Netflix, watch all of the programs she has on catch up, plus she won't get interrupted while watching all of her favourite soaps.

The device itself is a cordon bleu chef and can make tea and coffee on demand.

It can also massage her feet after a hard day in front of the TV.

[edit] Lie by omission. Knowledge of your purchase is on a need to know basis. She does not need to know.
It was a woman who drove me to drink... you know I never went back and thanked her.

Don't try to outweird me, three-eyes. I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

How does one convince their spouse that buying a 1080Ti is a good idea?
It requires manipulation and emotional blackmail

Having a 1080ti will make you happy
If she loves you she will want you to be happy
If she won't let you have a 1080ti … well you know where you stand

My wife has a clever way of preventing me from upgrading my computer. She will agree to get it for me, then is insistent she doesn't want anything for her birthday or Christmas because "we can't afford it", even though we totally could.
